I'm actually partial to the 3913ST. Anyone have this gun that can speak to the trigger pull? I'm interested in how it compares to other guns.

The 3913 is one of the finest single stack compact DA/SA 9mm out there, but is often overlooked. If you can get your hands on one to try, I think you will like it. For a DA/SA gun the trigger pull is decent -- much better for example than a Beretta 92, or even a SIG 239 (for a similar class comparison), to my way of thinking.

However, I hate the "rail" on the tsw models. (I think that is the one you mean). I have one of the original 3913 models before they did this.

If I were in the market for one of these today, I would either try to find a nice used 3913, or go for the 3913LS, or the 908s (slightly less expensive version, but the same basic pistol).

S&W Performance Center 952.

It is one heck of a nice pistol. It's superbly accurate and has an excellent single action trigger. The 41 ounce weight contributes to the way that it handles recoil so smoothly. The 952 also utilizes a Briley spherical bushing. I bought it from Sporting Arms for $1089. It may seem a little pricey for a pistol, but not after shooting it and realizing that this one is a keeper. It compares favorably to the Sig P210, a couple of people that own both told me they liked the 952 better and it costs about $700 less than the Sig. Did I mention that it's accurate. :)

Next week I'm picking up a pair of PC1911s which will give the 952 some competition.

S&W's large-frame 3rd Gen autoloaders have always been my favorites: the 10XX-series and 45XX-series.

Once in a while when shooting my 1076 or 1006 at the range, I get comments from younger guys that these stainless steel S&Ws are way too heavy and, worse still, have that retro "80s" look - nothing like their much "cooler" homogenous black polymer Glocks, XDs or HKs.

I just ignore 'em and smile, cause the giggling and sideways glances quickly stop when I touch off the first mag full of hot 10mm from the 1006 and they see the tight little group it makes on the target.

I have owned a 5904 in the past, and found it to be reliable as a ball peen hammer. Accuracy was so-so, but know more about handloading now, than I did 15 years ago. :)

Except for the Sigma, most folks with S&W autos seem to like them pretty well, once they get used to the safeties and general features.

My brother has a 745, the .45 ACP target model, and he is very pleased with it. I also like any of S&W's single action autos, such as the 952, 945, and the classic .22, the Model 41. I'd take a Colt 1911 over a SW1911, but it's still a good bet.

As plastic guns go, I have shot the SW99, and would easily take it over a Glock. For a small compact concealable semiauto, I think the 3913 is a fine bet, they have an excellent reputation.

The late models with model #'s like XX04 or XX06 are the ones with adjustable sights, and are probably a better bet for general informal target shooting.

Another vote for the 1006 :D

I shot one of the two PC1911s today. They both have the Koenig hammer. The Koenig hammer is just lighter and is designed to have less effect on your POI as compared to your POA, from the weight of the hammer falling. Mr. Koenig notices the difference.

What I learned from shooting this gun is that I'm not Mr. Koenig. ;f

The gun is a sweetheart though. The slide to frame fit is smoother than seal poop on an ice flow with absolutely zero side to side or up and down play. I like the high cut front strap and 30 lpi checkering. Together they make the gun feel like a Baer. The grips are nice, however the checkering on them isn't as sharp as I'm accustomed to.

I shot 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle ball ammo with the supplied Act-Mag and some Metalform 8 rounders. The gun worked perfectly until about round 175 when a round went about 3/4 of the way into the chamber, but not fully into battery. The remaining 25 rounds were perfect too.

I mostly shot for groups at 15 yards to get the sights dialed in for me. They came shooting a little left and a skosh high, which was simple enough to remedy with the high quality Wilson adjustable rear sight. I also ran 40 rounds of rapid fire and found the gun quick to recover with a very nice trigger reset.

I was a little crunched for time today so after the gun cooled I put it back in the FFL's safe without cleaning it or inspecting the gun's internals. :( Therefore my initial impressions were confined to exterior fit and finish and the bit of shooting I was able to do.

In a nutshell I came away very impressed with this pistol and can hardly wait to go back and shoot it some more. Next time I'd like to compare it to my Baer UM 1.5 and Springfield TGO 1, which are the two other adjustable sight 1911s I own. I think the PC1911 will compare very well.

Well, we've had a 645, 745 and 945....I'll do my part for the family portrait and add my 845. Very tight, VERY accurate, excellent single action trigger. It's performed well in PPC matches.

M,

I have the S&W 952, S&W 945, and the S&W 1911 (adj.). All have triggers that are short, light, and crisp. The triggers make it much easier for me to shoot the Smiths faster with more accuracy then the longer trigger pull of my 92FS.

Respectfully,

You will not find a better compact 9mm auto than the 3913TSW ...

... not too big and (equally important) not too small -- just right
