I think I'm getting a Model 29 Classic for my birthday. Looking online at speedloaders, some reviews say they didn't fit because the grip or something else interfered. I'm guessing some had problems because of the rubber grips they used to come with. The Classic's are wood. I'm particularly interested in the push-button release style.

Anyone with experience?

I've been using HKS since the late 70's on model 29's. Both factory wood and Pachmeyer presentation grips without issue. They're twist type though.

HKS here.Grab the 4" 629,5BH holster,stuff in back pocket....grab two speedloaders,head for the woods.Be it hunting,cutting firewood,or just going on a walk.

I use HKS (twist type) for everything except when I shot PPC years ago. Then I did try some Safariland push type thinking they may be a little faster. I never thought they were as secure with the rounds and I could not see them any faster. All HKS since then.

Safariland Comp I and Speedbeez. Both are push style but very different round retention methods. I have used Safariland Comp IIIs a lot for IDPA competition and they are excellent for the price. I don't have any personal experience with Speedbeez but have heard good things.

Well, I got my Model 29 and she’s beautiful. 6 1/2” barrel, polished and blued to perfection.

Shoots great, but the wood grips somehow pinch my left ring finger. A set of Pachmayr grips fixed that. And I bought a Bianchi Cyclone holster that I really like.

I bought 3 speed loaders, an HKS and a couple of the Safariland push type. Turns out I like the HKS the best. It’s easier to load and the release is more positive. All clear both the wood and the rubber grips.

Well I believe Inspector Harry Callahan of the San Francisco PD used Dade speedloaders for his Model 29.

I don't think there's much of a better endorsement than that. They can still be found on ebay and other places if you look around.

I've been using hks for years. Just recently picked up two Dade's and two comp11 for the gp. I'd carry either the comps or the hks for serious use. The Dade's are cool and retro but will drop rounds easy if dropped on that button. I feel just as fast with the hks as the safari land so far.
