Well hi guys. Iam a new member and registered to ask a some what old question but here it goes. I am looking for a 22wmr bolt action rifle it must be stainless steel and synthetic stocked and the heavier the better. I must have accuracy. So all of that said I have considered the Ruger 77/22, savage 93fvss and the marlin 982vs. The rugers natrually have nasty trigger which can be fixed and they are stout. I have had problems with a model 60 marlin so I am weary of marlins because of that. I know nothing of the savage. I couldn't figure out if cz makes a stainless synthetic 22wmr. If I missed any I would love to know about them. Due to my location I can't just go to a gun store so any opinions you have about fit and feel would be helpful. I thank you in advance for any info you can pass along.

cz does make one, but idont know if it is 22 wmr. Also t/c makes one that is fabulous, but it is of course more money. i would go with the marlin here. Having had rifles of all the others here, Marlin is CONSISTENTLY the most accurate, the most rugged. microgrooving is very good for the rimfire world, workds well for both the bbls and the bullets. Also if I remember right , all their mag bbls start off life as Green mountain blanks, which are tough to beat. my 17 m2 is a one hole punch, so is my marlin 81dl, made in '40, so is my mod 60.

I personally have the Savage Mark II bull barrel stainless and plastic in .17 HM-2... and a laminate thumbhole stocked Savage .17 BTVSS bull barrel stainless in HMR...

BOTH great guns, and the triggers are SWEET... especially the BTVSS with the "Accu-Trigger"...

On the Mark-II, I did a polish job on the sear and lug assembly and is a crisp, easy 2.5 pound trigger...

I ALSO have a Ruger Mod 77 in 22 LR... that trigger ain't bad, and there ARE aftermarket adjustable drop-in triggers available... and the flush-fit rotary mags are SWEET!

my father and a buddy both shoot Marlin rimfire bull barrel guns... the factory triggers SUCKED, but both now have aftermarket triggers in them, and they are GREAT guns... all good choices...

thanks guys I think I am leaning toward the savage 93vss my only hesitation is that the stock drop looks like it might be too much for shooting a scope comfortably. Do the newer marlins you guys know about have plastic floor plates?? I have a m60 that never did feed right and I ended up getting new guts for it off of ebay from an old m60 with all metal parts. That solved the problem with feeding and a few other isses. This marlin turned out to be accurate after alot of messing around but now I need a 22wmr. well thanks again for your thoughts

I have the marlin 982 vss. It's accurate even with PMC inexpenisve 22 WRM ammo. With PMC 22 WRM ammo, 1 MOA with a 6x fixed power scope.

Given the good selection of firearms you listed. Your budget is likely the deciding factor...

bv thats the kind of accuracy I am looking for. are you happy with the trigger? could you tell me how many screws hold the action into the stock? what kind of scope mounting system does it have? I know that these questions sound wierd but I won't be able to see the gun I purchase until its in my hands so I'm just trying to get a grasp on how sturdy the 982vss is. hiking around southeast alaska is very hard on guns. thanks akgoat

I have had many marlin mags, and currently i have a 917m2 in bull bbl, stainless laminate. this is a super stable platform. the rifle came with weaver tip off mounts, that are rock solid. just pick your rings and scope, and off you go, if you get the savage, thier mounts are a little lower to the bbl, as the receiver is a hair more streamlined , so you may have to get medium or medium high rings.

well I thank you guys for all your input looks like it'll be the marlin. just in case who makes an aftermarket trigger akgoat
