Best tactical scope for AR under $500?

I have a Bushmaster AR15 with a 24" DPMS bull barrel and I'm shopping for some optics. I'd like something "tactical" in flavor, but would like to keep the price under $500. Most shooting will be done at cute, furry little animals anywhere from 100 - 300 yards and so a max magnification of 20 to 24x is preferable. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the 10x42 with side parallax adjustment and am very happy with it. It feels like I could use it to pound tent stakes in the field and still keep a zero. Got my Dad the 16x42 that he uses to group his Tubb 2000 for highpower and he has been very happy with it.

I'd go with either a Leupold VX-II 6-18x40 with target knobs or a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44. Both are good scopes and cost under $500. Should fit the bill nicely.

The Super Sniper 16X or 20X would be a great buy. I have the 16X, it's a great scope. Tough, good glass, mildot reticle, and target turrets for only $300. A lot of people prefer them over much more expensive scopes. You can get them from SWFA.
