I'm looking for a scope to put on a Winchester .308. I'd like to have variable magnification in the 3.5-10X range, a mil-dot reticle, and target turrets, and spend somewhere around $500-600. So far it looks like the Sightron S2 SS MD and the Leupold Mark 4 PR (both 3.5-10X) fit the bill, with the Leupold costing a bit more than the Sightron. Input on either of these scopes would be appreciated.

There's also the Weaver 3-9x40 Tactical, which has the reticle in the first plane and is only about $300. This is apparently a new scope, has anyone heard anything further about it? Other suggestions would be welcome too.

Check out the Zeiss Conquest line..Starting at $400, they are the best value out there

Being a Leupold fanatic, I was taken aback by the Burris scope I inadvertantley purchased on a used rifle. IF the price range you describe is a little more generous~ LEICA all the way. They ought to be illegal for hunting, those optics darn near qualify as 1st gen night vision. BUT, the MK8 from Leupold is an excellent scope for the $$, have in 12x on a magnum that was bought strictley for deer depredation tags and they were in a wheat field at 5-600 yards, that scope is clear. ;)
