Should I use a coarse file or a fine file? Or would a sharpening stone work better? Thanks.

I used both a fine file and emory paper. Don't get too aggressive with the file, because you can't put it back on once it's gone. Mike

It's really a tossup as to how much metal you need to take off. I actually had to remove quite a bit.

A Dremel tool with fine gauge polishing stone bits would make a good investment. Use low RPM setting. WalMart has a cordless model for <$20.

Well, I used a fine file and it took me about an hour and a half to fit the kit to my SP01. Next time I will try the dremel or at least a coarse file.

I did mine in about 15 minutes with a hobby file set. pretty easy. barely took any off the rails, that lug area took a bit more filing.

Where is the metal coming off? And how did it affect things when the original barrel and slide went back on?

I would imagine it is coming off of the kadet kit slide, so it would have no effect on the normal slide or frame.

Nothing is done to the original frame, only in certain spots on the Kadet kit. I was slightly uneasy filing my Kadet, but it is very simple. File a little and refit, and repeat until it fits to the right position. Mike

I used emery (sp?) boards as in the kind you use to shape your finger nails. Worked fine. Actually it was more a case or polishing away the metal as opposed to filing it away.

Read the directions several times prior to starting and and go slow. You'll be fine.

No power tools like Dremels. Just use a fine file and go slow. You can always remove, but you can't restore.

The places you file to fit on a kadet kit do not move when a round is fired so I doubt they will wear the frame and cause issues when the regular slide is installed. I was just shocked it took so long as every one says they are done in 15 minutes or less. I just kept take off a little metal at a time and test fitting until it was easy to install the kadet kit.
