Best value in a 9 or 40

Hey Guys which would be the best gun for 3 or 400$. I was considering Ruger, or CZ' or Bersa, could somebody please help. I want it for self defense. My neighborhood is going downhill, or would a 45 be better. Thanks.
 
The above poster brings up a great example.......hard to beat the FN.

My favorite values in 9mm defensive handguns however are the SIG 2009/2340/2022 (Pro) series and the Springfield XD. And in that price range and speaking of poly autoloaders, one would be remiss not to mention the GLOCK, which still represents an amazing value.
 
The fn is good, as are the CZ's. I'd also consider a Glock 17 or 19 (both are 9mm's).
If you are new to pistols, it's easiest to learn the Glock. Very simple to use. I'd also recommend using 9mm b/c the recoil is very low.
If you will practice often, I'd also suggest something in .45 like a SIG p220 or a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911.
But really, for simplicity, its hard to beat a Glock in 9mm. You can move up to a .45 (or not) later.
 
I don't know if you want used or not, but I have a Glock 23 I bought used for $400 and I just bought a 27 that was used but never fired for $400. I love them both. Just keep an eye out for a good deal. This is assuming that you have the time to look.
 
well let me get mine in before this becomes a " you should get an h&K because i have one, and everyone should have the noe like me, even though it goes totally against the post, by not being in the 3-$400 price range."

I would like to reccommend the Ruger, and the ruger p95 in particullar. i had one for a while and i think it was a great value. solidly made, good fit and finish, accurate, very reliable, three dot sights, polymer frame, rail on the font. i think they are great. the only reason i got rid of mine was because i figured out after having that gun that i didn't like da/sa guns. if it was a dao model i would most likely still have it!
 
I do agree on the CZ. If you look hard enough, you might find new "blemished" Beretta 92FSs for a little over $400. Beretta is discontinuing the 92FS so their prices have dropped considerably. Most blemished models are only cosmetic, I'd much rather go for that for around $400.

Or look at a slightly previously loved XD9/XD40
 
How 'bout an S&W Sigma? Very fair price with good ergonomics and all around performance.
 
I'd look at the pre owned Glocks to fit your bill. May not be much to look at, but they go bang when asked & they go where pointed ;)
 
EAA Witness Elite Match in .40, $399 at a gun show several months ago. I don't know of a better pistol for double the price, it will outshoot even my BHP Competition model. The standard models are equal bargains for around $250-300, I have a Witness PS model as my nightstand pistol.

And I believe http://www.cdnninvestments.com still has the FN High Powers for less than $400 new, regular SA or SFS system.

9mm/.40S&W/.45ACP will all get the job done. I shoot mostly .40's now but still have several 9mm's and do not feel undergunned with them.
 
Have to agree with the others who have posted that the 9mm.,40,or 45 can get the job done. One can research or browse other threads here on this as it has been dicussed endlessly on any given day or week. Agree that the guns so far mentioned are all good choices. However, if quality at a low price,durability,and good accuracy are what you are after than check out the Ruger P series or CZ 75&85 pistols. Have 2 P95s in 9mm. and a P97 in .45ACP. Another family member has a CZ 75BD and a CZ85B. All these pistols have filled their respective niches well. There are fourms for the above pistols. www.rugerforum.com for the Rugers and www.unitedforums.com for the CZs. There may be other forums for these pistols which others posters can give you. I have short stubby fingers and the Rugers fit me best out of all the other brands. My other family member has very thin long fingers and the CZ fits her just fine. Ruger polymer models can be slick on the grips at time. However, a cheap fix is using a strip of friction tape cut to size and put on the front of the grip. Lots of competitive shooters in this part of the country use this fix. Try them all. Take your time. Shoot and handle as many makes and models as possible. After all it is your pistol and no one elses. Good luck and let us know what you narrow it down to or what the final pick is.
