Best way to remove Cold Bluing in a small area?

I picked up a nice gun last week but I noticed that someone had put cold blue on one side of the hammer where it should not go. The other side is just plain steel. Other parts of the hammer have the correct factory blue.

I saw some posts about soaking parts in Vinegar to remove cold blue, but I don't want to remove the factory blue on the other parts of the hammer.

What is the best process to remove a small area of cold blue without ruining the rest of the blue finish on the hammer?

600 grit wet/dry paper and a flat block/stone/etc.

Go slow, and check your work frequently. Cold blue is thin and easy to remove.

Are you sure it is blue and not colored from heat treatment or case coloring?

Cold blue comes off by itself. Just rub it with your finger.

There's no reason to sand. Even if this is stubborn cold blue that doesn't all rub off immediately, just use B/C's Blue and Rust Remover. Very carefully, if it's a small area.
