Howdy
NEVER use steel wool on Stainless Steel. Tiny pieces of the steel wool can break off and imbed themselves in the surface. When this happens, the natural passivation layer that forms on the surface of Stainless Steel is interrupted, and corrosion can set in around the imbedded pieces of steel wool.
Depending no how bad the scratches are, you can buy bronze wool from Brownells instead of steel wool. You could also use Scotch Brite pads, depending on how bad the scratches are. Or you could just leave it alone, because if you shoot it much it is bound to get more scratches.
