It is the traditional battle cry of "experts" (often elitists that are wealthy enough to buy whatever they want) to only use factory ammo for defense, but many of us actually load or reload ammo to a higher level of quality than much factory ammo. I was just wondering how many feel they DO load ammo comparable to, or better than, factory ammo. For me, it only takes a few extra inspection steps to insure that my ammo is as reliable, or more reliable, accurate, and made-to-spec than any factory ammo.

I've never met anyone who could not afford enough premium factory ammo to try it out in his gun and carry a magazine load, but the people who advise against carrying reloads understand three things:
  • That a defense of justification will require piecing together an account of what happened from an incomplete picture that will be based on limited evidence;
  • that GSR evidence is routimely taken in any incident involving death or iinjury be gunfire, and that the case may hinge upon the admissibility of GSR test evidence and expert tesimony related thereto;
  • and that the rules of admissibility for forensic scientific trace evidence mitigate against the use of said test data if the ammunition in question was not assembled by a third party using very strict record-keeping and quantitative inspection procedures.

Many of us can handload rifle ammunition that is more accurate than factory loads and both handgun and shotgun ammunition that is at least as good but less costly.

But we have spent much too much in the way of bandwidth on this discussion to make continuation worthwhile.
