I traded my Glock 22 for an Arcus 94c which is the compact version of the Arcus 94 (which is a Hi-Power copy).

Here are some comparison shots of the Arcus and my Bulgarian Makarov. I traded the Glock because it was too difficult to conceal, and because I was a crappy shot with it. The Arcus' previous owner replaced the hammer, safety and grips. I have a nylon holster for the Mak that almost fits the Arcus but the beavertail of the Arcus makes it too difficult to clear the thumb snap on the retaining strap.

Makarov is from J&G Sales

I got the Mak a bit over two years ago in Prescott, AZ. Got one of the last ones they had. Looked like it was unissued and it was throughly coated in cosmoline.

I use a Falco leather IWB holster from makarov.com for the Makarov.

Arcus was also from J&G. I fired it last Sunday and it was as accurate at 10 yards with the white box Wal-Mart ammunition. I have it loaded with white box 147 grain hollowpoints.

I was really seriously considering getting an Arcus, but decided I don't like the beavertail. (I never get hammerbite from Hi-Powers anyways even with the spur hammer)

Is the finish hard chroming or nickel plating? Looks like nickel. Any reliability issues yet with the shorter slide? Do you like the grips it came with? I think a pair of Uncle Mike's or Pachmayers would work nicely.

Not sure of the coating

I'm not sure of the coating but doesn't seem to be either nickel or crome. It's a rougher/matte color is all I can tell. The slide is also not blued.

There were no reliability issues with the shorter slide. I fired through about 150 rounds through five magazines with no problems.

The grips are Browning grips. I have the original rubber ones but will not bother trying trying them. The rubber grips would cover the front strap and there is already a piece of skateboard tape in place there.

I like the beavertail when shooting the gun. it makes an already ergonomic grip even more so. But, I've gotten used to jamming the web of my hand high on the grip when drawing and then snapping clear any retention strap. I'll need to either find a plastic holster or a real tight leather one.
