Glock 23 vs. Rock Island "Compact"

I bought mine at a pawn shop. It was new, in that nobody had fired it before, but I didn't get a box or paperwork or warranty card or the original grips (previous owner had swapped for CT grips then, inexplicably, sold the thing). I can't explain why one would sell it without firing it, but when I bought and opened it up there wasn't a mark on the inside of the slide. Got to pay for my own break in period, much to my chagrin!

So no, I didn't look into warranty work. Didn't think to try without an original receipt or having registered it.

The Glock is a fantastic firearm but I would say the majority of the problems seem to be with the .40 versions. Dont shoot reloads because of the chance of case failure. Also lead is a no no because of the rifling, I dont know why but thats what they say. They are very reliable as long as you dont get a lemon. Being an officer for a large PD, I see a lot of Glock shooting and the only time I see Glocks malfunction is when they have lights on them.

I have no experience with the RIA except for handling them. They seem to be on par with the milspec Springfields I have shot. Personally I wouldnt go with the 3 inch 1911. They seem to have more problems than their bigger brothers. Id go with a commanders sized 1911.

Also why not look at the Glock 30. Its a .45 like your other guns.

A local gun shop sold me a white box labeled .45 auto that turned out to be .45 super. I ran a couple mags through before deciding that was enough of the unknown ammo that was hammering the crap out of my pistol. Ran almost double the pressure of the .45, only apparent damage was putting a very slight curve in the safety pin. I figure it's fair retribution for the hardships my little pistol's given me.

There are many derogatory terms I might bestow upon a Rock Island Officer, but frail isn't one of them.

I remember seeing a thread here on THR a few months ago where this issue was being discussed. Has the cause of this problem been determined? Or is the cause still unknown? Do the 9mm Glocks have this issue? I used to have a Glock 19 and it ran fine with a Streamlight TLR-2 on it. Lately, I've been thinking about picking up a Glock 23 and I might end up throwing a light on there at times. I don't want to get it if I will experience problems.

Does anyone out there have an unmodified Glock 23 w/ a light that shoots without problems?

Listen, I'm not trying to be a jerk but to essentially bad mouth the RIAs that others here have is no different than what I did above. If one does enough research, you'll find a KaBooms in just about EVERY brand, including Glocks, HKs, Kimbers and others that the majority consider "quality". Bottom line: it happens. Unfortunately, "it" happened to you personally and I can understand the frustration that comes with that. You'll have those who had Glocks Kb on them feel the same way. Just understand, what happened to you is not the norm.
