was watching the news the other night, had a story about the increase in theft of large farm equipment, tractors, combines ect.,taking place in daylight hours.well,my first thought was, most farmers I know keep firearms around for pest and predator control, and if I was going to steel farmer John's tractor,I would wait till dark.but than they said in England,ok,now it makes sense.here I am BG,come and get me. jwr

hmmm...it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to find your tractor were it stolen. They move at the speed of smell, so the bandits couldn't have gotten far. They're freakin huge so ditching them in a bad part of town or in your garage is unlikely. How tough can this problem really be? Its like stealing an airliner and expecting to get away with it.

You underestimate British crooks, stealing a tractor is small stuff compared to what they have been known to get away with.

What good would it do to find or catch them...you can't even take a switch to the BGs. I wish tha Prime Minister's mom and dad would have ALL their belongings stolen...while they were at home. BGs walk in, tie them up, and haul off EVERYTHING! See if that would get any attention. :banghead:

I don't want them hurt...just everything gone.

Mark.

.... sounds kind of evil of me.

thing is,one key fits all,all John Deer keys are the same, ditto Ford,Kabuto, ect.also ,they all look alike,John Deer are green,Ford blue, ect.don't know bout now,but a few years ago it was impossible to get a ser.# tied to a certain model or year, from the factory, because they could sell two or three year old tractors as new stock.farm equipment didn't have a VIN # and thus no date of birth. jwr

Used to be just various part got stolen off of Agricultural Equipment...hydaulic & fuel pumps, etc, but now the crroks just drive off with the whole thing.

Although I do remember in the early 1970's in the mid-south, the IH dealers/stores were getting hard hit with thefts of the "Cub Cadet" series of lawn/garden tractors.

On rather brazen group would break into a dealer over the weekend, and use the dealers fork lift to load Cub Cadets still in the box onto a flatbed trailer that they would pull inside the workshop area.

nah its because heavy stuff like tractors are often in isolated places load on flatbed and away unless farmer or person who knows farmer catches you in the act. nobody thinks its odd.
they apparently get sold for export nowhere in the UK is more than 100 miles from the coast. unlike say kansas:D
most farmers are armed but if your not watching said tractor
