I recently picked up a MkIII Hi-Power on the used market. It came with a set of factory SAS-type grips and a set of wood grips that were sold as "vintage style," whatever that means. I also have an FM Hi-Power that I've owned for a number of years and went a bit accessory-crazy with; I've got at least six pairs of grips floating around, even after having settled on the thin Micarta offerings from Brownells.

Anyway - these are wooden, somewhat square profile with checkering over most of the panel, and are painted red on the inside. The right panel does not accommodate the right side of an ambidextrous safety so I don't plan to use these. Can anyone tell me anything about them?

I seem to recall seeing original factory grips which had a yellow-gold colored back on them as well. Not sure if this was also a moisture barrier sealant or just part of the staining process..
