Guys--I want to play around with "bullseye" type loads in my HiPower , 124 and 147's in the 800fps range. My gun has stock 17lb recoil spring and 32 lb hammer spring and I need to keep velocities above 950 fps to operate reliably now. What spring weight do I need for the lighter loads? Thanks Nick

First, I'd try a reduced power mainspring. This will reduce the trigger pull and also the PF required to run the gun. When I got the trigger where I wanted it (I think the BHP will run with a 22-24# mainspring, if memory serves) I would then try reducing the recoil spring.

Brownell's sells Wolff 'calibration packs' that can save mucho time. Bring four or five springs to the range and keep going down until the gun cycles.

Thanks Larry, I had gone to a 26lb spring early on for a lighter trigger but that causes other problems for me. I shoot mainly cast and what happens with standard loadings is the gun opens up a millisecond too soon and bullet lube gets blown back on the breechface. Over 50-100 rds the wax builds up causing the barrel to not go fully up into battery. I put the 32lb. spring back in and that took care of that problem, if I was shooting jacketed it would not matter. I would like to be able to just switch the recoil spring when I change loads, much easier than the mainspring. Thank you for your input. Nick
