I am not from Arizona but my state it pretty well locked down as far as gun lwas which I dont understand. Practicaly anything can be considered a weapon. It's foolish people who are the problem not the guns. I find gun control very irritating indeed.

Lets wait and see who the shooter was, and what their motive is.

I doubt someone willing to shoot 12 people would be deterred by having it illegal to carry.

Firstly, my prayers go out to the the congresswomen and the others murdered in this horrible story, and also to those injured. Supposedly the shooter is in custody, so more news to follow as to motivation, mental state etc.

I'm thinking it won't affect the RTC law. If the shooter purchased the gun, he/she would still have had a background check. I dont' see the argument that the RTC law in some way allowed the shooter to carry out these murders.

congress woman shot dead in AZ

just anouncesd on NBC a AriZona congress woman and others where shot dead at a raly in AZ today.

I'm afraid I am not thinking about carry laws at the moment... more about Gabrielle Giffords and four others. My prayers go out to those that were injured and affected.

It's a bit early to start all this kind of speculation about what will result from this tragedy.

Let's stick with this kind of thing for now, as it is High Road.

Just because a news story has a gun associated with it does NOT make it suitable for discussion on THR. News stories are suitable for discussion here only when the story contains clear and unambiguous self-defense, home defense, firearms-centric, or RKBA aspects *and* when there is readily discernible detail in the news accounts sufficient to support a rational discussion.

It is way too soon to have any of those discussions about this yet.

Buy as many "assault weapons" as you can

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_congresswoman_shot

Deputy Kastigar, on MSNBC, has said that the gunman used "a pistol with an extended magazine".

Further, a federal judge was killed according to NBC

Historically speaking, high profile assassinations or attempted assassinations are usually the catalyst for gun control legislation.

I am pretty sure ATM that Democrats, and some republicans, are going to use this incident to justify reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban.

Though I am not entirely sure. The Heller and MacDonald decisions have explicitly protected the 2nd amendment, and the Republican majority, especially Tea Party congressmen, will probably be reluctant to vote for gun control, But who knows. This was and will be a very high profile assassination.

Buy as many magazines and semi-auto rifles as you can!

I have to say, it does worry me that there will be a reintroduction of some type of AWB or mag capacity. Those in power will want to take the rights away from the citizens to protect themselves.

re the shooting of Congresswoman Gifford and others today

This incident will no doubt stoke the fires of Gun Control. We have seen this sort of thing before, and will likely see it again, human nature being what it is.

Having said that, one thing comes to mind re the "next", or this big push for the fairytale that is Gun Control.

If as usually proposed, it were to be enacted, exactly how would it have prevented today's shooting. I submit that adherents of Gun Control must be pushed to intelligently answer this question, note I said to intelligently answer, not to respond with rank emotionalism, such as is their Stock and Trade.

My thoughts on the Tucson, AZ shooting

Today is a horrible day in Tucson, Arizona. One Federal Judge killed, one nine year old child killed, a Congresswoman from the House of Representatives fighting for her life, and many other victims injured and more possibly killed. The actions taken by the subject go against everything American. It goes against our Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Keep and Bear Arms, Freedom of Assembly, and our Right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

I pray for the victims, I pray for the swift but proper application of justice, I pray for those that lost their lives today that they find peace, and I pray that We the People of these United State of America show our compassion in love and our strength in justice to this vile scum and to those all across the world. May we judge the criminal for his actions and not the innocent law abiding public. May our legal system prevail in administering proper justice and not stripping our fellow citizens of their rights.

In the end, I ask that we lower our flags, place the mourning bands on our badges, and pray for those hurt by today's event. Let us pray for the swift but correct application of justice to the person responsible for this heinous crime. Lastly, let us show the world our compassion by standing together with our fellow Americans and support them in their times of need.

The anti-gunners always will use tragic crimes as political tools, you can count on it. Say a prayer for all the victims and their families.

Coverage of AZ Shooting is taking the expected course....unfortunately.

I'm getting sick already with the coverage of this case. I know that a lot of lives were lost and altered by a nut yesterday and I don't try to take away from anyone for that. What amazes me is how quickly the media, in it's normal slanted style, has tried to tie this to the Tea Party Movement, Gun Owners in General and, even Sarah Palin.
What the heck is wrong with these, so called, Journalists? This is a truly terrible tragedy. It is so sad to see people jump on it and attempt to use it for Political gains.
Just sad.
