Hi everyone, my second post here in THR...

I own a .270 Win, Winchester 70, Featherweight (my guess), because of its short barrel, made aproximately in 1972.

My question arrises because of its extremely short barrel: 21 inches only, it has the two holes of the iron sights, so I don´t think it was cut. I can´t remember its twist of rate, but I´d say its around 1*10.

I´ve never seen or read about a rifle with such a short barrel, in fact, modern Model 70ies have a 22 inch long barrels...

Gentlemen, was my rifle cut? Might it be another configuration rather than the Featherweigth... ? I hope you can help me out with this one...

Thanks,

Winchester also built a "lightweight" M70 that supposedly was between the other two. My brother has one in 280 Remington that is a tackdriver for 3 shot and then starts to string until it cools. It yours is a FWT, it will have a schnabel style fore end on the stock. I have a 308 FWT, good shooter.

Remember that the barrel length is from the bolt face to the muzzle and not from the end of the action. Stick a rod down the barrel until it hits the bolt face. Mark it and then measure how much rod was in there. You may well have a 22 inch barrel.

Thank you...

That may be it: I´m measuring the barrel wrong. I did it OVER the barrel, not from the inside by using a cleaning rod.

Thanks again.

Actually 21" is not that short at all, if that's what it is. 16" or 17" I'd call "very short", 18" or 19" I'd call "short", and 20" or 21" I'd call "normal" or maybe "normal-compact", and 22 or 23" I'd call "normal-normal" or "normal-plus". :)

Thanks, PremiumSauces... I guess it also depends on the rate of twist, right... ?

I´ll find its twist tonight, and measure it properly. :D
