Bill O'Reilly on Florida's New Self Defense Law..

I was listening to Bill O'Reilly on the radio this afternoon. One of his topics was "Florida's New Self Defense" law.. and how it related to CCW. He seemed to be mostly "Pro"(?) 2-A.. and was willing to say so over the air. Among some of his "Pro-2A" statements: he agreed that the Police couldn't be everywhere all the time.. and that we as citizens had the right to protect ourselves, as well as CCW.

It was nice to see that he had Marion P. Hammer (Tallahassee, Florida and NRA Past President) speak on the air.. and allowed her amply time to explain Florida's new law. He brought up several scenarios which Marion answered quite well.

There were a couple of semi-minor problems I found with Bill's remarks. One was that he used the word "BLAST" (or a derivative of it) all the time.. in place of saying fired at. As a example: he asked the question of Marion, "If someone pulls a knife on me then I can just 'BLAST' away at them"? It would seem to me you would hear the word "BLAST" in that context coming from someone who is on the anti-2A side.. instead of "Pro-2A".

The other thing that bothered me was his feelings about anyone who wanted to own (own.. NOT CCW) a firearm, needed to supply their DNA to the authorities to be kept in a data bank. My thought on that would be the same as yours. What good is that going to do when the BG's aren't going to comply.

Other than what I've said above, I think the whole hour segment went along real good.. especially with the fact all the people that called in were all "Pro-2A CCW's" who were able to intelligently tell "our" side of the story.

Considering Bill is heard Nation wide, I thought this helped our cause tremendously. If I were to give Bill a grade for this particular segment, it would be a.. "A-Minus". "What Say You"?

If you're such an O'Reilly fan,

how is it that you cannot even spell his name?

O'Reilly is a weathervane; he blows in the wind....

I second that weathervane comment

I used to listen to him until I heard him rant about 'civilians' not needing Assault Rifles. He's an entertainer. Not any different from Rush or any other crusader for the right.
He's made himself very rich.

Aw, O'Reilly general seems like a nice young fella. Like a lot of his fellow pundits, however; I'd like to buy him for what he knows, and sell him for what he thinks he knows...

:), Art

That was great

Art I love that one. Can I have your permission to use it at work?

Our local radio station's (WHAM1180) morning jocks described the new FL law as a "shoot first and ask questions later", probably because that's what came over their newswire.

And speaking of blowing in the wind...remember that Mr. O'Reilly claimed that the public supported the AWB because it “keeps your neighbors from owning bazookas and machineguns in their homesâ€. He got blown down on that one, and learned something apparently. At least he's blowing in the right direction now....but he's definately NOT a gun guy.

Someone needs to take Bill shooting. I think his problem is he knows almost zero about firearms and the 2nd amendment. Oh I'm sure he probably has a revolver and he probably carries and has hired bodyguards for his family, but he probalby has never shot any rifles or shotguns. I think he would like it. Someone needs to offer him a range day. If I lived up that way I would. Looks like a good natured NRA instructor could do it. He is a city boy and probably can't help his ignorance but he could be educated.Chrissy Matthews covered the same this evening on his show. Now there is a dunce (even though his brother is a Repug and big gun and NRA guy). He said his 10 year old son had his bike stolen by another kid that said he had a knife. He wondered if his kid could have blown the other kid away under this law. No kidding!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess that is what the PEACE corps does to ones mind.

Art put it perfectly. O'reilly is a pompus ass who happens to get it right sometimes and thinks he's right all the time. When all the talking heads were talking about the AWB, he ranted about how nobody needed a machine gun or bazooka. Then, the next night, after getting about a million emails explaining what the AWB actually covered, he blew it off by saying something to the effect of "i knew that, I was just kidding." He still never corrected his lies or explained his position on the AWB without talking about bazooks and machine guns.

Kim, aaron brown posed a similarly idiotic question to Wayne LaPierre on his show last night. "so, under this law, if kids were going around and knocking on doors or ringing doorbells and then running away, would a person be justified in shooting them?"

A person who is simply ignorant about guns, shooting, and the Florida self defense law could easily use 'blast.'

O'Reilly is simply a bombastic entertainer masquerading as a serious commentator. I've never listened to him much but every single time that the issue has been a subject that I know about...I knew a heck of a lot more than him. And I'm not a pargon of knowledge by any means.

Bill O'Reilly is a worthless windbag in the same manner as Rush Limbaugh and Rhandi Rhodes.

He's an entertainer.
I watch him rant once in a while if I am flipping through the channels. I usually get annoyed after a few minutes, though.

He strikes me as having an attitude that he is the only person that can be trusted to do right and that the rest of us are just rabble.

i heard it and he stated that he had a gun and if some one broke into his house he would kill them and he wouldn't feel bad about it.

Bill is not a friend of gun owners. Last year he launched into disparaging remarks about Ted Nugent and gun owners. He's a scum bag.
