Binding Mossberg 500?

Howdy,

I have a Mossberg 500 and I am trying to clean up the action a little.

The stud on the cartridge interupter passes through the body and scrapes against elevator. Is that by design? I would like to grind the back side off the stud to remove that bump in the action but I don't actually know what I'm doing.

Any other advice for smoothing out a shotgun's action faster than shooting and cycling the action?

TIA,

Dan

Sounds to me like the cartridge interrupter is more than a little out of spec...

The pin should only stick out of one side, the side against the receiver.

May need to be ground down, remember the rule of thumb: Always grind on the cheaper part.

Thanks. With the interrupter engaging the lifter there is a definite “bump” in the action. I kinda like the bump. It is almost like a detent or a clicky keyboard. It makes the action feel surer. But it is wearing a groove in the lifter.

Thanks for the reminder about grinding the cheaper part. I have destroyed a fair amount of equipment in my time and, not being a gunsmith, I am going very slowly on this. I figure I will not touch the trigger group, barrel, or receiver and I am barely touching the upper bolt assembly. Just a little 600 grit and 1500 grit on shiny spots.

Thanks again,

Dan
