Bipod Selection Remington 700 Tactical 308

Gentlemen need a little help on selecting a bipod for my 700 in 308. Which manufacturer and height for said rifle,leaning toward a Harris just not sure whether to get the 6 to 9 inch or the 9 to 13 model. This is for informal target shooting. Thanks for the info.

Nothing wrong with Harris but I prefer Atlas bipods. They are pricey but are built like a tank. You can change out the feet and add extra segments to make as tall as you need from the base model.

I replaced the front sling stud with a Seekins Precision rail, and then used that to mount an Israeli-made Command Arms bipod. The Seekins rail has its own built-in sling attachment point. This whole installation doesn't look like an afterthought, as the Harris bipod does.

Lawd knows I'm not an expert, but I have a Harris for my Savage 10. The legs measure roughly 8.5 at the short position and 13ish when fully extended. It's worked for me; I haven't encountered any times it was too tall or too short, just shooting prone on flat ranges or off the bench.

I haven't seen an Atlas in the flesh, but they sure are purdy - but they are ??3 times?? the price of the Harris. I figured I'd think about that if I ever think the Harris was holding me back, which may never happen.

I run Harrises, actually several, depending on the rifle and the set-up.

I have three of their shortest, the BRM model, with the Schuster lever added to lock-in the angle of cant, as needed. I also have 2 more Harrises with the next longer legs (9-14"?) for higher elevation on certain rifles. Those too have had the Schuster Mfg lock lever installed.

The shorter one might work better for shooting from a bench, but the longer one would still work, while being better for prone shooting. I would recommend one that swivels at the top. It beats having to lean the gun or reposition the entire setup to get one inch of windage correction. How would I know that...

On a gun like a 700 I prefer the short Harris with the cant feature. That is the model we used in the Army with the M24 SWS (a 700 variant). Ii like to be as low to the ground as I can get, you can always make it taller if you need to.

i bought an Atlas to share on all of my rifles. When I looked at what I wanted out of a bipod it was the option that made the most sense. I think I paid ~$200 for it about 4 years ago.

When you factor in buying a Harris bipod, with cant ability, and then buying a panning adapter for the harris and a picatinny adapter it comes out not much less and with that whole setup to get the harris working with all my rifles I thought it would have been kind of janky. I think when I added up all the items for the harris I would have been around $150, I decided the extra $50 was worth it.

I love the panning aspect of the harris, that was a must for me. I know most people who have used harris bipods say that they can twist the legs when they are down to pan a certain amount, but with the atlas its a fluid motion.
