I'm looking at bipods, I mainly shoot from a bench and looking for good stability . I'm thinking a 6-9 be enough but not sure . any recommendations on brands . I 've most likely will use the swivel stud for my anchor point. unless there a better system thanks

Skip the Blackhawks, Caldwells, and any other Harris clone. Get a Harris. You will be happier in the long run....I use a 6-9 on my rimfire benchrest guns.

I've had pretty good luck with the Caldwell in the 6-9" and the cost is a lot less for basically the same thing. Now if you're into name brand only then I would buy the Harris brand.

Harris, atlas, versa, gg&g. Some are swivel others are picatinny. I have 2 harris and have been looking at getting a gg&g or atlas, more money thou. 6-9 is good for bench and 9-13 for prone, but you can really use both sizes for either prone or bench - I know I have.

Although I did find a Chinese knock off of the harris on ebay. Paid $20 for it and it works really well. I use it on my 22. It is a little flimsy and would not take it into the field but for just a bench works great. It locks up well and looks just like the harris, but you can tell the difference if you hold them side by side. I am happy with it on my 22.

if you're shooting from a bench, use a bag, not a bipod. bipods usually suck from a bench. not nearly as stable and prone to issues like hopping.

if you are planning to do some dynamic type shooting, with time constraints, the harris BRM-S style is the way to go. (or atlas, etc if you want to get spendy)
do not get the cheap harris without leg notches and where the legs spring closed instead of open sucks and isn't really different than the caldwell.

I have a couple of bipods I use in F class competition. They are designed for that type of shooting but can also be used on the bench. There are several different makes and models to choose from, and in a static platform they are light years more stable than the Harris/Caldwell/atlas style bipods.

This is a Sinclair..........

Same rifle with a 6-9 Harris.........

They both serve a purpose and have their place but if push comes to shove on a bench I'll take the Sinclair for the bench if not using a front rest.

Do you you have a problem with the 6x 9 Harris twisting around the single swivel stud on the rifle? I talked to a shooter using the same stock as mine, b&c tactical, that said their Harris turned just like my Caldwell does. I want to buy a good bipod, but I don't want the same issue. The Caldwell works fine on my rifles with a rounded front end. The b&c is basically flat.

get your dremel out and make it not flat.
I was hoping that there was a commonly applied option that didn't involve modifying my stock. I might try flattening out one of my bipod bases, and adding some anti slip tape on the base, not the stock.

BTW, you recommended that I watch the sniper 101 videos. Good stuff. I wound up with an swfa scope. I have not used it yet. Hopefully I will get to a range tomorrow.

I use to have a B&C A5 type stock with a flat forend. I used the Harris adapter. Its more money you have to spend but it does work. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/298012/harris-9-bipod-adapter-flat-fore-end-black

Cool, thanks. Looks like it is designed to add a swivel stud, and grips the front of a stock to keep it from turning. I might try that with a new harris bipod if destroying one of my xla's doesn't work. The bipod movement is very annoying.

Does it add much height?

I have a Harris with a larue adapter for an ar15 and it is awesome

Atlas is also a good option but you expensive

Be sure you buy from a reputable source

Harris bipods are worth the money if you need them. But my Blackhawk has served me pretty dang well for half the price. On an expensive rifle, no reason to skimp. But on a cheap-ish rifled, no reason to go overboard. What can your budget handle?

I went with a Versa-pod. It's more rugged than the Harris style bipods and it doesn't have those stupid springs on the legs. I also chose the type that has the metal feet because I use Mother Nature's bench (dirt) in the prone primarily. The best part is the QD function with the Versas, but that's a personal preference.
