All but one of my revolvers are square butt. The only round butt I have feels less firm in my grasp, perhaps only because it's different.

I am intrigued by bird's head style revolvers, but I'm reluctant because of my limited exposure to the rounded style.

Does anyone have any difficulty with the round butt/bird's head style grip in terms of control?

I have owned a few. A couple of Heritage Arms .22LR. w/ convertible cylinders. They felt well in my hands & I shot them often. But over the years they were sold or traded . When I saw the Ruger Vaquero w/ Birds Head grips, I grabbed it! The one I got was the S.S.model, in .45Colt. When I took it out to shoot it, I found the grips to be much larger & uncomfortable. This was with cowboy shooting loads. My hands have arthritis now & that big round grip is uncomfortable to use! I am looking into changing it. I would advise you to shoot the gun if you can, before you buy it! If that's not a option, then check it out real well before you get it. It will cost me some cash to get a new grip frame for it! And more to change it over. I still use it, just not as much! My New Dakota in the same Cal.is a pleasure to shoot with that plow handle grip. Take your time if you can & try it out if you can! That's my opinion & advice.

Funny you mention that today - yesterday my neighbor brought over his Colt .38-40 with a bird's head grip. I found it very comfortable to shoot! No problems at all... in fact I sort of think it's more comfy than the "standard" butt of a SAA.

I like single action grips but they aren't considered comfortable by many. The Bird's Head grip is better than the others IMO and more comfortable to shoot. I also like the Bisley grip frame but the Ruger Bisley, not the Colt style Bisley.

I have shot a few Bird's Head SA revolvers and my next SA purchase will be a Bird's Head in 45 Colt.

I had a chance to shoot my bother's bird's head Ruger a couple of years ago. It's an old model Vaquero in 45 Colt. With cowboy loads, it was fun to shoot.

When I decided to pare down my collection, I sold all but one of my single action revolvers. I kept the bird head Uberti, in .45LC. A gorgeous thing, with checkered walnut bird heads, with case colored frame, and black barrel/hammer/trigger. I love shooting it in my arthritic hands.

It's far more comfortable to hold than the square butt single actions.

[/I][/B]I have one in 45 LC and I find it very easy to point and shoot. Works well for me as a "door gun."

I have never fired a bird's head revolver. I know one guy who has an Uberti Thunderer and commented how the grip "rolls" in his hand making cocking the next shot easier. I have an idea what he means but never experienced that. Any thoughts from you owners?

I have a Beretta Stampede (I think made by Uberti) 357 Mag with the birds head grip. The grips are good and comfortable to shoot, but the gun malfunctions and Beretta wants almost as much to fix it as I paid for it. Grips = good; Beretta = sucks!
