Walter does not have a web site even though his initials are WEB. 
Hi All-
I've searched "six ways to Sunday" to find a link to an official W.E. Birdsong & Associates site but can't find anything. Does anyone have links to pages with detailed photographs of firearms with his Black-T finish?
Not to sound like a technology geek, but I have a difficult time understanding how someone could have a famous business and not yet have a basic web site with simple pictures and contact information listed.

I've seen his address and telephone number (perfect excuse for a web site!) on the forums somewhere. Does he have a print catalog that shows what his finishes look like on pistols, revolvers, and longarms? Thanks much!

Blue jays...Walter does fist class work....some of the very best....and either does quality work...or answer questions on the computer... personally I choose to see his quality work. Also last time I spoke with him...he does work for smiths only...not individuals...this may or may not....have changed.

You don't need a web site. Just call him. You'll get all the information you want or need and more. Trust me...

Had my Sig 229 done by him over 6 years ago. Impressed the heck out of me by personally answering the phone and spending 20 minutes talking to me about the finish. I also have a Kahr K-9 in Black-T.

Thanks for the replies. I've been in touch with someone who is going to put some Black-T firearms up on his site in a few weeks. Do these responses mean that Walt Birdsong does do business with end consumers? One of the posts earlier suggested that he may only works with other gunsmiths.
Once I can take a look at Walt's work it will make more sense to speak with him about the details I have in mind. Is the general recommendation to do all modifications (e.g. nightsights) before sending him the pistol or will he also do minor installations like that when it's there to be refinished? Thanks for your help!

I don't have a picture to post, but I sent my BHP and almost 20 mags to Mr. Birdsong directly. He promised a 90 day turnaround and it took exactly that. His prices were more than reasonable and the work is excellent. I carry the BHP both on and off duty and the finish is now about two years old. It has worn well and his work is exactly as he represents it. As mentioned earlier, the initial telephone call is well worth your time -- Walter is a nice, respectable fellow.
You might look at www.thefiringline.com or www.1911forum.com and search for Black T as there are pictures posted of Walter's finish on those sites.

Walt's doesn't do computers - at least he didn't the last time I talked to him. The reason you don't see much of his work is because a lot of his time is spent doing stuff for federal agencies and aircraft companies. That said when I called him about doing my .50 rifle, we talked for over an hour and it was done when he said it would be. Same with a couple of pistols he did for me. He just usually doesn't deal with private parties because they still have to go through a 'smith to ship stuff to him. And the finish is a really pretty soft charcoal color.

Tried searching TFL the other week, perhaps I'll try a couple different "variants" on the search terms to see if I get better hits. This coating from Birdsong & Associates is famous here in our little gunnie circle, so it is truly amazing that finding digital images proves to be so difficult.
I would hate to bother Walter on the telephone before seeing what the finish looks like visually...which is why I'm trying to do the legwork online first. He sounds like a true gentleman and a good businessman, so I'm hoping this will be the solution that I seek.

I'm attempting to attach pics of my P226 with a Black-T finish. It was a police trade in that was Black-T'ed after reconditioning. Exterior, mags and internals (including guide rod, spring, and lockworks) are all finished with the stuff. I love it. Gives the gun a really nice semi-gloss look as if it has just been oiled and wiped down.
After five years of intermittent shooting, there is some wear on the moving parts: rails, barrel (at the bushing and the ejection port), under the decocker, and on the mags. The best part can't be seen in the pictures. The Black-T is sort of like a finer version of teflon, and puting it on the internals has made the trigger pull EXTREMELY smooth.

The pictures came out perfect, thanks! I'm trying to decide if I like the exterior of the barrel, recoil spring, and all internals done in the Black-T finish or not. I suppose I could always have them done in NP3 first for a bit of visual interest...hmmmm!
It appears that Mr. Birdsong completely disassembles the firearms right down to the little screws, springs, and components then reassembles after coating everything. I'm guessing that the firearm is then function-fired, cleaned, and then overnighted back to the owner?

I don't know what the Black-T folks do. My Sig was sitting on a shelf in a gun shop, already finnished, the first time I saw it.
I think it's safe to assume that they will function test the gun. That's just good, standard practice for people who work on guns.

Walter Birdsong passed in July 2009; the Son's are running the Company now. The other posts are correct that Walter never advertised to the general public, only to Military and Law Enforcement. I have had Handguns, Shotgun and Emerson Knives done since 1999. I have seen many different Finishes in my 26 year Military Career and I will continue to have Birdsongs Finish on my Guns and Knives. I just sent a Sig 226 and 4 Emerson knives off to get done, and next will be my Bushmaster AR-15. The Green and Black T combo looks awesome. They are still located in the same place as stated in the previous posts. They now advertise to the general public, the website is www.black-t.com

Back about 2002, I called to discuss doing the "T" thing on my Winchester Model 97. That man sure liked to talk and I enjoyed every minute of it. At that time, he informed me, his location was not open news and that he catered to a bunch of those acronym groups.
He was not in good condition back then. I wonder how long he stayed at the "gate"?
After years of SASS, my shotgun shows wear on the mag tube where the action arm rubs, and few places where parts rub. Great stuff.

My "Green-T" 10mm with accessory slides (10mm, .45, and 9mm/.38 Super) finished By Birdsong. Use in a BladeTech OD scabbard has resulted in just minimal wear on the contacting edges, and internally on the rails, etc. Holding up very well for 7-8 years.

Walter did not believe in advertising too much. Sadly, he died not too long ago. His sons currently run the business, they do believe in advertising, and very recently introduced their website, www.black-t.com.
