According to the Birmingham Police Department, 27-year-old David Winston was shot dead last night at the Inn Town Suites, off Huffman Road in Huffman.

The incident happened at 11:30 p.m. Officers say Winston had been shot several times, and died at the scene. A woman found at the hotel had also been shot, but is expected to recover.

Police have arrested a security guard who works at the hotel.

Would it be too much of a leap to say this was a lawful gun owner gone wrong? Could be be so bold as to assume he probably had a concealed carry permit?

It's too easy to say the "vast majority" of gun owners are safe and responsible. Those who are not are in the news every single day, day in and day out. And the sad part is much of this could be avoided with little or no cost to the truly law-abiding.

Why do seek opinion from a group of people you clearly don't care for? The first five posts I read on your site show your inclination to speculate and that is not the purpose of this site. It welcomes all viewpoints but speculation of motive, guilt or right and wrong leads none of us closer to the truth. If that is what you seek then guessing won't lead you to it.

Yes, all kinds of people own guns, good people, bad people, crazy people, drunk people, rich people, poor people... all kinds of people own everything. What's your point? :uhoh:

My point is too many unfit and dangerous people have guns and we're not doing anything about it.

Most news articles that peripherally involve a firearm are actually off topic here. Crime happens, with or without firearms involvement. Please read the sticky on news articles. Since you clearly overlooked it, it's here.

Only the most twisted sort of "logic" equates a security guard who commits a crime with citizens lawfully carrying a concealed firearm.

Yes.

Wild speculation.

Though it is easily proveable, statistically.

Those who are not are in the news every single day, day in and day out. And the sad part is much of this could be avoided with little or no cost to the truly law-abiding.
That comment is blatantly false. And the really sad part is deluded people who don't understand history or human nature.

See above.
