I don't how many of you have watched that television show called Bizarre Foods hosted by a guy named Andrew Zimmern? I watch it once in awhile. The dude does eat some strange stuff. After last night's episode, I have become a big fan of his.

He was in South Africa. He went to a restaraunt that serves all manner of African flesh. There is zebra, crocodile, warthog, and every other creature that roams the African landscape on the menu. This eatery also raises the animals that it serves on the menu. They asked Andrew if he wanted to hunt his meal. He did.

The were driving around the ranch when they spotted a heard of impala. He shot one at about fifty yards, dropped it clean. Then they showed him with a plate with the animals kidneys and liver on it. He then said that there is a certain satisfaction of eating an animal that you harvest yourself.

By the way, he said that the impala's liver and kidney were fantastic!

Andrew Zimmern is one of us, a hunter.

I really like his show. I dont know if he is an actual hunter in real life, but he certainly makes you understand where the meat comes from, and seems to understand how to use at least a rifle. I love how diplomatic he tries to be when he eats something really distasteful and describes it as ..."an acquired taste".

I could have sworn Zimmern was an ex-cop but his bio mentions nothing about it. Seems like he attended the Dalton School and Vassar College, has spent most of his life in food and journalism.

I've also seen him shoot javalina.

The Wild Within hosted by Steven Rinella was on the Travel Channel for a couple months, the last episode of the season was a few weeks ago, and was basically along the same lines only with a bigger focus on the hunting. Each episode was a hunt or two, or some fishing and a hunt and then a segment on what to do when it came time to cook. It was a great show and I hope they come back with it for a second season.
