I have some old BL-C powder not BL-C(2) can I use the same powder
charge or did they change it? I am loading .223 55gr bt .

Powder

I was in busuness when BLC-2 was brought on the market as a powder for very accurate competition ammunition and I used it for a trick shooter in his 222. I never heard of plain BLC in the 1960's

These are real old steel 1lb cans still sealed marked bl type c with a
paper label one even has specs on the back but not for .223.

The data for .222 and .308 are 1 grain less on the old can. These must be old the price stamped on the label is $1.75.

What you CAN do is use the .222 loading information on the can to load your .223, as long as you're using the same bullet.

Simply use the LOWEST load shown on the can.

The .222 and .223 are similar in size, but the .223 is larger, so any powder charge you use that was designed for the .222 will give lower pressure and reduced velocity.

From there you can work your way up SLOWLY!

As long as the bullet weights are the same ? The can says soft point and
I am useing ballistic tips.

Yep, same bullet weight, in a larger case, with the bottom load of powder, and you should be fine.

I've done that sort of extrapolation before. You have to be careful, but this is considered to be a pretty safe technique.

It is NOT, however, OK to do this if you're going from a larger case to a smaller case, or using heavier bullets.
