Wouldn't it be easier to hitchhike?
I can see it now, ol' Lyle Lovett in the background singing Fromholz' "Bears" song...Ol' Brer Bear, heading off to the City to get on the welfare rolls...Or maybe run for US Senator.

I have seen deer and bear swim across the delaware river here and they do it quickly and easily, they will also take the bridge if they don't want to get wet. Deer have been known to swim miles and polar bears at least are fantastic swimmers. NJ is going to be up to their necks in bears since the polpulation continues to grow while they stubbornly refuse to hunt them. There have been wild animals that wander into NYC and they are usually met with hysteria. Anyway the hudson river is no barrier to a black bear.

I was not not questioning whether or not black bears could make that sort of swim.....I know about as much about black bears as I about T-rex.....nothing!

The can terrorize the public because so many get hysterical at the thought of wild animals. Even here in the catskill mtns , for example , last year a deer wandered into a store . The fellow who witnessed this told me that half the people got hysterical and the other half laughed . The poor deer was having a terrible time slipping and sliding in the smooth floor and finally managed to find an exit.

The old McGuire Ranch of some 11,000 acres was subdivided into ranchettes. (Davis Mountains in west Texas.) Deed restrictions prohibited shooting or hunting.
At one of the Property Owners' Association meetings, one of the more vehement anti-gun women spoke in high dudgeon and great complaint: "Couldn't somebody DO SOMETHING about the javelinas in my yard?" Seems they regularly "trapped" her inside her house. Kept her from getting to her Bingo game. Seems she loved flowers; so did the piggies...
