And that is not the half of it IMHO. They will be just as busy transferring those firearms purchased on Black Friday and shipped the LGS spread out over the next week or so. Oh and don't forget the purchases on Cyber Monday to add to that total.
Throw in a bunch of private transfers and we are doing just fine for a "slowdown" IMHO.

FURTHER, the California gunman never 'evaded' detection all. Everyone knew he had the weapons, was firing the weapons indiscriminately long before the murders, ...and no one did anything about it.
Including the gun problem, but far larger in implication, If a community (ne culture) will not defend itself -- even w/ the tools it legally has at hand -- no gov't can prevent what will inevitably happen.
