Black Friday Gun Sales

But Caroline Brewer, a spokeswoman for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said the Black Friday sales surge “might say something about marketing” but didn’t reflect actual patterns in U.S. gun ownership.

“The trend that has been observed for decades now is that fewer and fewer Americans own guns, but those who do own continue to add to their stock,” Brewer said

As long as they're living happily under that rock, they're not much of a bother.

The reality? There are hundreds more new gun owners every single day. The daily posts here about "buying first gun, what should I get?" and so on are a reflection of what we see in the LGS.

I love how they cling to their statistics. Guess what my answer is when polled about gun ownership? How many are like me?

The real estimates are far more than 32% of households armed in this country.

Bear in mind, this number is not fully accurate as it only measures calls to the FBI. In Wisconsin, handgun background checks are done by the state and never go into the federal system (@$13 per check, they brought in ~$100,000 in tax revenue in November 2011). I believe there are other states that do this as well.

Actually, you're right and wrong.

Some states, Like NV and WI do call in through their state and pay a fee to their state...BUT the state in turn processes the NICS check online like dealers are able to do directly in most states, so they are all accounted for.

You are correct though in that the number is inaccurate. The number is the number of checks called in, not the number of guns sold.

About 25% of our BG Checks on black Friday were for mutiple firearms, so the number of firearms that went out that day is prob much larger than the number of checks called in.

dont forget that in states like texas if you have chl/ ccw license then there is no nics check at all since you've all ready had a big check by the state

the feds dont know of any my purchases for 3 years now. they all fell into a lake in an unfortunate boating accident anyways...

last year on black friday when i was selling guns the NICS system crashed for a couple hours so who knows how many sales were lost across the nation

I also read this morning that part of the increase was due to better marketing schemes by the gunmakers. Now the fact is I do not see much tv.
But I don't remember seeing ANY advertisements for firearms except where one would expect to see them. Hunting and shooting magazines and the like.
One local dealer however has been running radio ads to try get people into his shop. I do not think that would be accredited to the gunmakers however.

According to the brandy centers "statistics" all guns are used to kill babies. I don't believe a word they say.

I'm sure that the positive light of firearms shown on some of the TV shows we have seen in the past months dosent hurt either. Heck i saw a Henry rifle commercial on network TV and cheaper than dirt is running ads on talk radio now too
