Ran across this on ARF and thought it worth noting since I've been timing my jump into the purchase of an MSAR AUG-type:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=43&t=297064

Highlights:

Place:Rat Worx USA
Deal: MSAR E4 (AUG-type, takes AR mags) railed for $1300 and optic for $1350. STG-556 (takes AUG mags), latest variant railed for $950 and optic for $1050.
Duration: Now through January 1, 2010.

Place: FNH USA
Deal: $250 rebate for the FS2000 and $200 rebate for the PS90.
Duration: Only good for those that purchase between November 1, 2009 through January 31, 2010.

Place: Steyr Arms
Deal: A Mail In Offer for Steyr AUG A3 purchasers for a $233 hard tactical rifle travel case.
Duration: Only good for those who purchase an AUG A3 between October 22, 2009 and December 31, 2009.

Place:Specialist Gun Shop
Deal: "Blow out sale" on Steyr AUG A3s, "call for details". Pre-sale price was $1995, so a big sale could be awesome.

As an overall fan of the bullpup rifle, despite its faults, it's good to see that they are rapidly approaching affordability. Some of that may be due to the current downturn in the EBR market, but also due to some manufacturers having filled the "gottahaveitfirst" crowd willing to overpay, and also to perhaps ammortising some R&D and machining costs making later runs more affordable.

In whatever case, I'm stoked:

Update: MSAR is down to $950 for the railed STG-556 (takes AUG mags) and $1050 with optic. I've called my order in for a 20" tan stock with optic.

Not financially involved with any of the above companies, just really excited about having AUGs back in the US.

Where did you go? :neener:

Thanks for the news...looks like some good deals to be had. Do you know if the pistol cartridge MSARs are also on sale, or only .223 variants?

:)

Last I heard the MCS (pistol-caliber AUG) was pushed back to early 2010. MSAR just moved shop to Asheville NC so there's been some rearrangement, plus they're also working on 6.8, 5.45, and 7.62 Comm AUG variants, and also some sort of CC pistol.

Long/short, they have a lot of irons in the fire. I'm a bit annoyed about the "Archangel" pistol, as it doesn't seem a particularly exciting addition to the gun world, compared to the other cool stuff they have on the back-burner.

I understand they're really close to the 6.8 AUGs, and I believe that an existing MSAR E4 could just take a new barrel/bolt/mag to convert.

Myself, I'm mainly waiting on their dedicated AUG suppressor. AUGs aren't ideal for regular suppressors since part of the noise escapes through the piston system, but MSAR is apparently working an integrally-suppressed barrel that takes care of that too.

Lots of ambitious products, but they seem to be doing pretty good business in the meantime.

No biggie, I'll wait (or find something else). I already have a .223/5.56 bullpup, I want something different. The 7.62 Commie sounds pretty good, will give that strong consideration.

Thanks for the info; Mav.
