Has anyone here questioned the quality of black hills ammunition? My friend and I both bought several boxes of their red box 230gr ammo for our 1911's. When we shot the ammo it was less accurate than the cheaper federal 230gr we brought with us and it was more dirty. Has anyone experienced this or was this just a bad batch? The best shooting ammo that I have ever shot was actually the cheap CCI aluminum case ammo........a whole $10 cheaper per box than the black hills.

Each gun is a rule unto it's own! Hard to say what your results represent? That is why more expensive is not necessarily better! So, if you have the box and the lot # why not email BHA and ask if there have been any reports of bad batches? If you do not, then well you are best left to your own choices whether to try it again. But, if cheaper shoots better then use it!

I've recently tried several different types of of 9mm +P in my carry gun (Kahr P9) to see what works best. Black Hills 124gr +P has been the most accurate and most reliable by far. No complaints from me.

Recently a friend gave me several boxes of of Black Hills .223.
I've been shooting it in a Kel Tec PLR-16 .223 pistol, along with other ammo, to see what the pistol will do at 100 yards.
Except for my reloads, the Black Hills is the most accurate ammo I've shot from the pistol and is loaded as hot (2514 fps) as any commercial ammo I've chronographed from the PLR's 9 inch barrel.
Of course this doesn't mean that the whole Black Hills line of ammo is that good.

I've used Black Hills red box and blue box (reloaded) ammo in .45 and have been less than impressed. It's more expensive (even the reloaded) than all the other standard manufactured brands and is for me, at best, about the same in accuracy. I'll take PMC, Fiocchi, Federal American Eagle, and even Winchester any day. They are cheaper and just as accurate and reliable. If I want match quality I'll find some Federal Match on the internet.

I've been using Black Hills .45 ACP 230 grain JHP +P out of my S&W 625 since I bought the gun. I havn't tried any other types of defence ammunition, but my 625 seems to love this stuff. I get pretty nice groups from it, but then again I should try some more types to see if it's really not as good as you say.

Then again, compared to my practise ammo (Wolf .45), this stuff is GOLD.

"Is that a park bench M2 Carbine? Do I hear kids playing in the background?"

Yes, it's a park bench and no there's no kids around.
If there were, they would be be in as safe a place as they possibly could be.:)

I use that bench a lot for pictures. I've found that outside in full shade makes some good gun pictures.

Sorry for getting off topic Dutchman.

Has anyone used the federal xm1911 230 fmj loads? I heard from a friend when I brought up this topic to him today that a lot of people use it and have found it to be very accurate and clean.
