I have been using 777 pellets and Pyrodex pellets and as has been said I get the crud ring that has to be scrubbed between shots. Accuracy was good but cleaning between shots is a pain. I bought a jug of BH209 and went to the range today to fine tune my bullet selection for the hunting season. All I can say is AMAZING!. I fired 50 shots today and did not clean once between any of the shots, or at all till I got home. 3 patches of MPro 7 bore gel and 2 dry patches- done, cleaned! and the breech was soooo easy to take out.

My encore PH likes the 265gr Barnes TMZ bullets with 100 grains BH 209 ignited with a CCI shotgun primer. All shots touching at 100 and a 2 " group at 200. It was a bit windy but I know it can be better. The guys at the bench were amazed at the accuracy and how I didn't have to clean during the shooting. Why would anyone use anything else for powder?

Geesh I wish I could use this powder in my ROA.

I guess I could use it in my Kirst 45LC conversion...would that be kosher?

I tried some Blackhorn for .38 Special and .45 Colt Revolver, and with all the Cartridge would hold it was still so anaemic I felt truly crestfallen.

Maybe it behaves better in Rifle length Barrels.

It's probably pretty slow burning, since it was developed for inline rifles. Wonder how it would be in a sidelock rifle, with a 5 or 10 grain priming charge of 3f?

I don't think it will work very well in a revolver because it is a progressive burning powder. It needs barrel length to realize its potential.

Most people who have a difficult time with it have misfires and difficulty with ignition. It does require regular shotgun 209 primers and flash holes that are big enough to pass that flame into the charge.

Blackhorn 209 propellant is recommended for high
performance muzzleloader rifles with 209 primer ignition
systems where the primer is TOTALLY enclosed. If the
209 primer is not totally enclosed, the ignition flame
may not be properly directed into the propellant charge,
resulting in a misfire or hangfire.

That's from their website. So using it in a pistol application isn't recommended. And, they say do not use #11 caps or percussion caps. It was intended as a rifle powder. I have poured some out in a line in the dirt. Yes, it burns visibly slower than Pyro or 777 , so you are gonna need the rifle length barrel for it to really get rocking. I use it in my TC Triumph and can tell you, I love this stuff, and cleanup is fast & easy. In a way it is a bit contrary to B.P. as it is non-corrosive and you clean your rifle with standard gun solvents. Check out this stuff, it is great !!
