I made a little noisemaker for the 4th on my mini-lathe. It is a little under 1" in diameter with a 3/8" bore and 1/8" touch hole for a fuse. The chunk of 4x4 is just to hold it vertically for firing blanks. I figure about 10 to 15 grains of powder and a wad should make a good bang. Bore length is 2-1/8".

Yes it is.

I do believe though that I would have drilled the hole in the block angled off somewhat to keep the muzzle pointed away from me while lighting the fuse!

Nice! I have a lathe, but it's for wood. I don't think that would work too well. Need to make one big enough to shoot golf balls.

That's pretty cool , I made one of those a few years ago out of a 1" x 4" piece of round stainless stock.I drilled about a .44 / .45 hole and a touch hole for small fuse. We put a little bp in it with a wad and lit the fuse and it was soo loud ! Alot of fun on the fourth :D :p
