I'm just getting into cap and ball shooting. Looking for a place to buy fff for the revolver I just ordered. Anyone know of a good place to purchase powder in San Luis Obispo County? Or hop on to a group buy online?

Thank you

Kept in its original containers (now better IMHO plastic), you gotta
work real hard to make it dangerous outside of normal handling

It's the idea of paying up front for 5# of powder that, I'm sure will last me a long time. But I'm used to buying in bulk in most other areas of consumption, so why not powder.

In my Cap and Ball days I used both, but please don't believe the myth that you don't need to clean up behind substitute....it will eat your gun too. I personally found ffg and fffg to be suitable and more fun than substitute due to the metering.

I got mine from Graf's. I believe you can combine BP with smokeless for your minimum order. If you do get 5 pounds you MAY want to get a pound of 4F if you think you might get into flintlocks, since you'll need some priming powder.

Black powder substitute has worked just fine for me. It's only marginally cleaner than the real deal, produces way less smoke (possibly a disadvantage), and doesn't smell so awful if you're cleaning out the bore between shots. It's also readily available at Cabela's, Bass Pro, etc., whereas real BP isn't.

There is a gun shop on Spring and 12th St in Paso Robles, something like Bridgers. Anyway, they carry a good assortment of smokeless upnfront and real black powder in the back for those that ask. I picked up a pound of Goex fffg for $25.

The store is worth the drive to see the stock and the taxidermy.

Oh, that's a good price. I'll have to check them out. Thank you for the information.

Graf's stocks BP. Never ordered BP from them but I have ordered other powders from them with no problems.
I seem to recall reading someplace that California has really low limits on how much real BP you can have.

The limit is 1 pound of black powder in CA. Synthetic does not seem to fall under the limit and some syntheticabels actually say that it is not black powder. Dont go by my word though, check the state and local cides.

There seems to be some confusion on that. Internet forums seem to think something like 1-4 lbs,, real live bpcr shooters from California, generally order theirs by the case.
