OK. The new .327 Magnum cartridge will generate interest-and controversy-for sometime to come. With this in mind, does anyone have any information about a possible .327 Magnum Blackhawk revolver? Ruger is offering their double-action SP 101 revolver in this caliber, so I assume that they might chamber their Blackhawk or Vaquero revolvers for it also. Can anyone confirm or deny this assumption?

Some of the hardcore SA freaks on the SA forum say that the 327 could be shoehorned into a Single Six, with a custom cylinder and slightly enlarged frame window. That would rock.

Failing that, the New Vaq platform could definitely cope as a sixgun and *maybe* a seven, although I doubt Ruger would go there - the gun wouldn't be SASS/CAS legal. In adjustable sight SA, some variant on the 50th Anniversary 357 Blackhawk would work (same gun as the NewVaq but adjustable sights).

In the NewVaq, you'd have a modern re-creation of the 32-20, so you wouldn't be all that historically "off". And a 327 cylinder could be easily reamed to 32-20 or a dual-cylinder gun is possible. Many Colt SAAs were done in 32-20 so the concept is "basically" period correct :).

I'm unsure if the longer cartridge would fit in the Single Six window well enough for mass production (ie "custom fitted cylinder") but I'd also think that perhpas the mid-sized cylinder frames as used for the 50th Ann .357 and the New Vaqueros would suffice and not have the size/weight of the larger BH. Although I like my .32's I'm not overly excited about this new cartridge. Althoguh...a 9 1/2" or even a 7 1/2" Ruger single action in this chambering would entice me. ;)

Hmm, the 50th Blackhawk in .357 with its steel grip frame weighs more than a regular blued Blackhawk with an aluminum grip frame. I have a Vaquero, stainless, in .357 that is less than one ounce heavier than my New Vaquero, stainless in .357, both with the same barrel length. I like the new-sized frame but it didn't lose a lot of weight.

Well, I've already approached to a 'smith about possibly re-chambering and opening the throats of a .30 Carbine cylinder for the .327 and fitting it as a third cylinder to:

Who's to say the aluminum gripframes couldn't be used? A whole once? Such a model wouldn't be for deep cover carry anyways so is weight - especially an ounce or two - such a huge concern.
If so, then ppl should dith all BHs and SBHs in anything other than .45 caliber since that extra material removed for the larger bore and chambers would reduce weigth more than with smaller calibers.

I assume that no one has any solid information on a possible Blackhawk/Vaquero .327 Magnum. My hope was that Ruger may have "tested the waters" with rumors about different revolver formats for this cartridge. This seems not to have occured unless someone has information to the contrary.

There are rumors Ruger is finally going to support the 44Spl in mid-frame guns like the NewVaq and/or the flattop 50th 357-type guns. If they're going to extend the life of the mid-frame adjustable sight guns, the 327 would be an obvious additional caliber.

I slaver for a New Vaquero in .44 Special.

Seriously, sold. I'm ready to put cash on the barrelhead the day they ship.

Of course, I'm a sixgun buff, and the .44 Spl is a quintessential cult caliber ... but that just means Ruger can do 'em as a limited distributor run if they must.

Just imagine that lovely, darkly blued, no-fake-color-case, "ivory"-gripped cosmetic special run of New Vaqs that one of the distributors did in .45 Colt -- but now chambered in the .44 Special.

Put a Belt Mountain pin on one of those culprits and you'd be set.

Would it be the sweetest Ruger sixgun ever? The sweetest since 1973?

I have on good authority that there is to be a factory Ryger .44 special SA. Have a 50th Ann .357 all set to head to Clements for a facelift and conversion to .44 special that has been temporarily halted to see exactly what configuration Ruger catalogs.

Please be 5 1/2" or longer!

Droooool.........a .44 special Blackawk in deep blue on the new smaller frame. It just doesn't get any better than that, except maybe in a Vaquero configuration. I need a towel.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I'd be equally delighted if Ruger chose the "50th Ann." .357 Blackhawk frame for chambering the .44 Special. No worries about fake case-coloring on the Blackhawk. And adjustable sights.

Yeah. :D

If they make a Flattop .44 Special, I will buy one. I have one of the 50th Anniversary .357s and it's perfect.

I'm agonizing over whether to have my 50th converted or not. I have a Cimarron in .44spl that is nice, but that Ruger would be so, so nice.

Wonder what the actual bore size is?
Practically all .32 bullets are .314 or there abouts.

Sounds like the .327 monicker is made up to cash in on comparasion with the .357 Magnum.

Roswell, you are correct that the .327 designation has been chosen to cash in on the reputation of its bigger brother, the .357 Magnum. I wonder if it will be produced in a single-action format.
