The .327 Federal Magnum~?

Ya, moosehunt, but thanks anyway. I knew that but it's probably useful to have your post under consideration for those who might not consider pressure limitations.
I was thinking of the same model that you are, but also daydreaming about the mint S&W .32 that I passed on at a show only a couple of weeks ago.

ArchAngel, I don't think anyone is 'sold' on this caliber. It's just a new thing for conjecture in following the question as to why this cartridge has been introduced at all.

But it does give 370 Ft lbs at muzzle in comparison to .32 auto's 130, both hydrashocks. That's not insignificant.

I would like to see the return of the .32 Caliber K frame, In the M-66 type platform it would have a touch more steel in all the right places for the .327 mag. Does anyone know the OAL of the 327?

I also feel we should not have to defend a new cartridge. If it does not fit your needs, don't buy it and don't badmouth it. The market will take care of itself.
Also this thing would scream out of a rifle.

I agree it's not insignificant but I disagree about your comparison. If anything I would think the 32-20 would be a better comparison to the .327 Magnum.

I would like to see a lever gun chambered in .327 Fed Mag. I think that would make a great working gun for sure. C'mon Marlin, lets see a 1894 in .327 Mag although I doubt it would provide much of a performance improvement over the 32-20 or come close to the 32-40.

20nickels,
I think the OAL of the .327 Mag is something like 1.450" or 1.460". That would clearly fit nicely in a K frame.

Capacity always gets brought in to these things. This is the revolver forum right. Were used to having only 5-7 rounds to sort things out. And unless you pack a 22 then that is it 5, 6, or 7.

All Federal HydraShok
327 Federal-6 shots @ 370 ft-lbs=2220
357 Mag-5 shots @ 539 ft-lbs=2695

The difference is probably negligible but there you have it. If your going to make exclusive headshots capacity should always be a concern because then that one more shot is one more dead perp. Unfortunately we live in the real world with compromises in everything including guns.

Just keep in mind your probably not going to be ambushed by a squad of al Qaeda on the metro.

CDNN has SW 431s with laser grips in their latest catalog. Wonder what the price was?

The new SW 632 is MSRP at $980 - so why? A Glock 26 is easy to shoot and cheaper.

Glad I got a 432 at $335 a few years ago. It's a nice little gun.
