Updated Safety Recall Notice - Issued 07dec07

Please note that the Updated Safety Recall Notice linked below and issued on 07dec07 for certain "High Wall" versions of both the Blackhawk Carbon Fiber SERPA and the Blackhawk Sportster holsters, supersedes all previously released notices about this recall (only).

The linked update adds two additional Component Part Numbers (C1215-S and C1215-L-S) to the two (C1215 and C1215-L) that were contained in the preceding notice(s).

Please read and follow the Notice linked below to determine if your holster is among the limited group affected by this recall.

Blackhawk Products Group is announcing a safety recall that applies to the "High Wall" versions of Blackhawk's Carbon Fiber SERPA Holsters and Blackhawk Sportster Holsters intended to fit only Glock Models 20 and 21 and the Smith & Wesson M&P in any caliber or configuration that are marked: "Glock 20/21"; "Glock 20/21 S&W M&P; or "Glock 20/21 S&W M&P .45". These holsters also have the Component Part Number C1215, C1215-L, C1215-S, or C1215-L-S molded into the bottom of the rear wall of the holster body.

As a result of a single incident, it has been determined that employing certain movements when attempting to place the Smith and Wesson M&P Pistol (in any caliber or configuration) into these "High Wall" holsters can cause the handgun to engage that "High Wall" and unexpectedly discharge if there is a round in the chamber and the trigger is in what Smith & Wesson calls "the striker fire action mode". A discharge or "firing" of the weapon in this manner could cause property damage or personal injury or death to the user and/or others.

Regardless of what firearm you are using with the holster, you should immediately determine if your holster is included in the two groups of holsters affected by this recall as described in the actual Notice linked below. If it is, you must stop using it and return it to Blackhawk Products Group by following the procedure contained in the linked Notice.

No, striker fired and has a Glock-esque trigger safety. You can see how something could get caught in the trigger guard and push on the trigger.

+1 to Blackhawk, they're taking the hit for something that is not entirely their fault.

BTW New M&P NOT WANT :barf:

But I want to line safes with the oldies. :D

Any firearm that uses the glock type trigger action comes with a statement to the effect of 'keep your finger or dingus out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire the weapon.'

I have not been a fan of holsters that utilize a dingus in the triggerguard to keep the weapon secure in the holster.
Those designs have always made me nervous.
+2 for Blackhawk doing the right thing.

I'm still not convinced the fundamental design is safe, on any gun. I played with one, at speed, with a blue gun, and it was pretty easy to make a mistake that resulted in my finger entering the trigger guard before the muzzle even cleared the body of the holster. The pushbutton-action just seems to lend itself to that mistake if the user isn't extremely careful--say, when under stress and adrenaline.

I could be wrong here, but I'm thinking that the recall is due to the shape of the outer guard being able to hit the trigger if placed incorrectly into the holster. The actual locking mechanism isn't the problem, I don't think.

Lousy handgun, questionable holster.

First off, good for BlackHawk for doing a speedy and sweeping recall, even though it's not entirely their fault, it's mostly S&W for a lousy design.

Fobus had a similar recall a few years ago with Glock holsters.

Manufacturers began making their handguns geared toward the lowest common denominator, the village idiot. Now we're building better idiots and they're shooting themselves while holstering.

Repeat after me: A passive safety is NOT a safety. Loud and unexpected noises will occur. Hopefully nobody will get hurt. The only reason to not have a safety on an automatic is if you don't have a thumb. Then it's kinda hard to hold a pistol anyway, so get a rifle. All of which have safeties, by the way.

Lousy design you arent to smart are you.......

I own several custom 1911s and others and the mp has become one of the fastest selling handguns its soild durable very realiable and very very accurate. I own 3 of them and have seen no less than 20 of them in classes i have taught....

and no actually its BH for there lousy holster desighn that saw issues a long time ago and was and has been pointed out by top name trainers. the BH holster is pure junk........ and BH lied...... when i contacted them about a AD?ND i saw first hand. they said nope first time ever heard of that. they lied to my face.........
