I bought some Blackhorn 209 last year and fell in love with the stuff. EASY to clean even if you're lazy and wait til tomorrow to do it. Doesn't attract moisture and seems very close to having the same properties as smokeless powder.

My problem is I want to use it in percussion guns too and it is difficult to ignite without a priming charge of 4FG below the cap.

Has anyone found a better way to ignite the powder in a percussion gun???

Blackhorn 209 is intended for use with 209 shotgun primers. There are conversion kits to change your percussion ignition system to use 209 primers.

hubbard mag spark adapter.

"Doesn't attract moisture"

Fouling attracts moisture which then causes rust. If you can't fully clean the rifle at the end of the day, just run a few DRY patches and it removed about 90% or more of BH209 fouling.

I called Mr. Hubbard and spoke with him this afternoon .. a very nice gentleman. He directed me to: Warren Custom Outdoor.com and I ordered one for my old Sile Hawken copy.
I wish they made something similar for a ROA.

I have used a similar method in the ROA using 4FG BP poured into the nipple hole and then replacing the nipple in a previously loaded cylinder with Blackhorn 209. It fired about 50%-60% of the time. This was probably due to inconsistent amounts of 4FG being poured into the backend. I was leery about putting an actual charge of 4FG in the cylinder first and then topping it off with the Blackhorn 209.

UPDATE: I got my Hubbard nipple and installed it in my Hawken clone. I loaded up with 90 gr. eq. of Blackhorn 209 and used Remington 97 (209) primers. I had the gun sighted in for 75 yards with a maxi ball and 3FG. With a .45 250 gr. XTP in a sabot, It went boom without a delay .. every time. It also was now a little high at 100 yards without changing the sights.
I am tickled .. thanks for the great advice, frontiergander.
