I have never had an interest in blackpowder before last weekend. We have had a lot of torrential rain in south Texas recently. My favorite range is in a quarry basin, and it has been repeatedly flooded in the last few weeks. The mosquitos are RIDICULOUS.

My 8 yeard old son & I were sighting in two of this seasons duty rifles, and we had blackpowder shooters on both sides of us. We also had a bazillion mosquitos. But, After each smoke filled shot, THEY ALL DISAPPEARED. Is this hobby of yall's a well known mosquito repellant??

I could get into this blackpowder gig with side benefits like that!

I hope you're onto something. Another useful application of the holy black!

My ROA with full loads is a pretty effective mosquito killer here in Ky. Shooting one evening and the suckers were turning my forearms black until I touched off a round, then they were writhing in pain on the bench. Waited for the next group before shooting again, didn't do too well on the target, but filled the bench top with their bodies.

You would be stunned at what people have tried to use black powder for. Since it was as close to magic as people had ever seen...they prescribed it for various medical maladies. Troops during the revolutionary war were told to burn a "pan full" in their tents before going to sleep to "purify" the air...it should cure asthma...wow!

Burning sulpher was one of the methods used years ago to repel bugs. It was effective but not popular because of the smell.

I know sulfur smell in bed will repel women...a form of pest at times. So I guess it makes sense.

Nothing like giving her the old Dutch Oven....

Smoke of any kind keeps the bugs away. Yet another reason to shoot the Holy Black!

Well shoot about one shot a minute and keep the skeeters away. 'Course, your bullet & powder bills, and your hunting success may suffer...... :p
