Blkout optics

Looking for a red dot type, magnified scope, or something in between? It is really just another cartridge and depends on what your use is. There are some nitch optics available with dual aiming points to accommodate the dramatically different trajectories of super and subsonic loads.

"What optics is good that will not break the bank under 300 for a blkout"

I'm assuming that by 'for a blkout' you mean having a 300 optimized reticle. If so, I have a Nikon P-300 that seems like a reasonable budget scope. Try googling 'Nikon P-300 BDC' (because Nikon also makes a P300 camera :-().

If you don't want the special reticle, then any red dot/scope/whatever will work.

One thing to keep in mind with .300 ballistic drop reticles is that unless you have zero wind value, you will also get a windage shift with subsonics due to the slower flight time.

By competition, you mean to spend double the price per round that a 5.56 gun will cost, plus deal with the significant bullet drop past 300 meters? There are those who've tried it with 7.62 x 39, and on the longer stages they give up points because of it unless they have shot tens of thousands of rounds.

Of course, if you reload, all that means much less. Still, very few go to matches using cartridges that drop more and where they can't pick up their brass. They take advantage of every little detail because that is what separates first and second place.

Right now you get the basic P-series mounts with the Nikon P-300 scope. Not a bad deal if you need rings as well. It's not the greatest scope ever made but it works well for most. I'm not sure what game you would be entering where a 300blk is a better choice. Unless there is a power factor that 300blk gets you into, I would stick to standard .223/5.56 for games.

This one in .300 BO is work in progress, since I have several other AR's in different calibers I decided to make this one a dedicated night rifle. The Newcon DN140 is inexpensive and does a decent job for short range shooting.
