Recently acquired a Japanese-made take-down Browning Lever Action rifle in 30-06.
Haven't shot it - hope to this weekend - but with a rifle and older eyes the prospects of a scope come up.
For this firearm, I am looking for something quick to target and reasonably accurate up to 100-150 yards. I have other long guns for sustained multi-round sessions. So I am not opposed with more modern approaches to putting a scope on this gun.
Questions - being a take-down does that limit my options and accuracy? For instance will it retain its accuracy after break down and reassembly (which is of course what I would want)?
What type of mounts would be used for traditional mounting - ie Weaver, etc.?
What about putting a rail on it for easy mounting/removal of a red dot or similar?
I won't be shooting this gun a lot. Guessing the lightweight gun shooting 30-06 will not be that pleasant of a shooter. Plus, as I don't reload 30-06, I am captive to whatever I can find on the store shelves or online for ammo.

A 1-4X20 or 1.5-4X20 or similar is actually faster to get on target than iron sights and every bit as fast as a dot sight if set on the lowest magnification. Set it on 4X and you have enough precision for deer size game out to at least 200-300 yards. Plus, they are light and compact. That is the direction I'd go.

Can't help with how well it will return to zero. My experience with take down rifles is limited to a Ruger 10/22TD and it would be close, but never perfect after the barrel was removed. It depends on how much precision you want. I'd guess it would be close enough for close to moderate ranges. Probably not a good idea if you want to shoot long range. But who knows. It might be fine.

I don't know what mounting options are out there for that rifle, but a Weaver, or Weaver style base should be available. With that most any ring with a cross slot will work. If you can get a rail for it that gives more mounting options.

Are you thinking of something in this setup - 1-4x24 Vortex?
I did run across this mount at Browning - BLR Scout-Style Scope Base - short Action. "Convert your BLR for mounting a long eye relief scope for a "Scout" style configuration."

mount the scope on the barrel?
Yes. Look at the link that I posted. That model of the BLR comes with a two piece rail that extends from the receiver down the barrel. It’s two pieces so it splits with the two halves (receiver and barrel). You can mount a long-eye-relief scope (I.e, a pistol scope) on the barrel.

In fact, you posted a link to a Browning brand scout scope mount that is specifically designed for mounting scopes to the barrel rather than the receiver.

I ran across an very inexpensive scope at a local gun shop. It is an NCStar 2-7x32e. Can't imagine buying a $50 (amazon)/$75 (local store) scope, but researched it some. Not a terrible option. Eye relief is 8.7-10.67 inches. The lighted reticle is pretty bright, perhaps too bright, but not something that would be an issue for me. The gun it would be going on is meant to be a fun gun. Maybe giving this scope a try.
would be using the browning long action mounts. with probably weaver style elevated scope rings.
