Curious if anybody here has any experience with the Gun Blue and Gun Black finishing products from Blue Wonder? How easy is it to use? How durable is it? Can the final finish be polished to a glossy shine without harming the finish? If you have finished a gun with these products, can you post some pics?

I have only used Blue Wonder once. It was years ago on a rust bucket of a German Luger pistol. It was a somewhat involved process but it turned out pretty good. Of course it will never look as good as a professinoal hot bluing. If you're going to do any metal polishing, you should do that before the bluing process. Any major polishing after the bluing will strip the finish.

I witnessed a demo at the NRA show 4 or 8 years ago. I was impressed with the stuff.

I know this thread is a year old, but I found it in my search for "Blue Wonder." Had a tube of it sitting around for year or so now, and almost forgot about it. That is until I managed to lead the barrel of my 4" GP100 so badly I was alarmed. Normally, I use Butch's Bore shine and a stiff brush for tough cleaning, but three applications of that still didn't get my barrel clean. Just for the heck of it, I tried the BW. Yep, two applications of a good soaking of it finally got the lead out. Next cleaning I will use it in conjunction with some Chore Boy on an old brush, which I suspect will do and even better job.

a cold bluing agent removed lead? huh guess i could see that if it could penetrate underneath and release it.

I've used it and like it. Works best if, after you clean, you warm the part well and apply several coats before applying the setting compound. Repeat until you get the darkness desired.

Janobles,

He was referring to our Gun Cleaning Gel that is part of the kit. The kit comes with a 1 oz tube used to degrease the surface prior to bluing.

It is also a great bore cleaner as alluded to in the post your referenced. It will remove copper and lead fouling. Finally, it will also remove rust without harming bluing.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

i will never use it again.
i blued per the direction to a T, took my shotgun camping and sprinkled lightly for 20 minutes, the shotgun srusted instantly even with a veavy coating of wax all over it.

I spent too much time on the shotgun restoring it to have it ruined again in such short time.
if its on a wall hanger i would have no problem using it though.
