Are there any J-frames that have a blued finish or is it just stainless and that tackytal PD black? :(

And can I get them in California?

There's plenty of older, steel J-Frames in blue. Condition ranges from NIB to junk though. Dunno about California though.

Some of the ladysmith guns have a very nice blueing on them along with rosewood grips. A bunch of them are on the "list". The models have an ls suffix on the model number.

I am thinking of getting the 36ls. I don't care if it says ladysmith. I am comfortable with my masculinity. :D

I don't know what to think any more ........

First the "Top Tactical" on our forum goes out and buys a revolver (or two) ....

And now you're talking about a blued finish.

Seriously, seeing that you are in California and S&W doesn't make much in blued guns anymore, I'd start looking for a good, used model 36, or whatever you might find attractive. I presume you can even shop the internet auctions so long as what you bid for in on the Approved List.

The Performance Center will refinish or replace a "ladysmith" sideplate for you.

A little while back I sent a 65LS to the PC for trigger work, chamfering, etc and asked if they could remove the "ladysmith" engraving. The guy said no problem as its only surface laser engraved.

Looks like a very manly 65 now.

Retrotactical ...... RETROTACTICAL !!! YOU ????????

(Sob) Next it will be a cowboy six-shooter .......

Well Hell - there goes the neighborhood, especially if wood grips are used.
Well all us old antiquated persons, no matter what gender or what age have been trying to teach - gave up - hell I did - blued old smith's - screw 'em -gonna hoard for ourselves, exactly my attitude.

The ladies deserve to have their name on a gun. The better students were ladies , no matter what age. The other "better students" were the "antiquated" mind set fellas as myself.

The ladies learned to actually shoot. They learned on revolvers, they listened and out-shot the men. Exception were the "old coot thinking" men like me. And then they often out-shot these men.

Nope the fellows wanted to spray and pray. Wanted the carbon fiber , bling bling , tactical this and doo-dad that. The Fellows got what they wanted and deserved IMO.

I have no problem with "ladysmith" on a gun. Hell I shot a model 65 recently, great shooter, great gun...rather it was blue though. I'm very secure in my masuclinity , never ever a complaint from a lady.

Lots of ladies only had at tops $350 to spend on a CCW and accessories. Using Model 10s , 36s and similar police trade ins. Some are using used holsters altered to fit, some bought used grips. They wanted a good gun and ammo. They have spend more money on ammo and lessons than guns. They can and will outshoot most fellas. Some guns look like hell as far as finish...internal and lockup is great...like a bank vault. They wanted a older quaity gun, that fit their hand. They wanted ammo. Their two priorities.

Aw hell , there goes the neighborhood...

Only saving grace we have left is the Plain Jane Gov't .45...in Blue! Some of the same oadies eventually transitoned when the funds came --got ladies carrying these full size guns as well...the 36s and 37s are BUGs.

I sure hope the BIG GUY upstairs comes up with a new tactical toy for the boys to buy, I hope some flowered shirted writer can write the article that sells it .Oh please oh please...young bunch needs to leave this old stuff alone, it is OLD school, antiquated, no night sights , no nothing...ya'll don't want these revolvers.

I'm serious. I didn't use any smilies for a reason.

Unfortunately, the list contains only newer model S&Ws. Unless a gun has one of the newer dash numbers, it isn't on the list. I have heard stories that some FFLs may look the other way and will fill out the form with just "65" or "686", but technically it is not kosher. The only way to get older smiths in Cali is through PPT, and since most people are holding onto them, it is hard to get a decent used price. I have looked a lot for older Smiths, only to find guns that have timing and lockup issues and priced only $50-60 less than a brand new one.

Sure glad I don't live in California. Oh well, I wish Skunkabilly the best of luck in finding what he wants.

Good funny thread. I'm introduced to two great new terms (metrotactical and retrotactical), and Mr. Pink wants to remove the "Lady" reference from his sidearm. Good stuff. (And I think I get the reference to Reservoir Dogs, but it's still funny stuff.) : )

Hmm.. skunk...

ANOTHER J frame? How bout' something a little bigger such as a L frame .357/.38spl?

My recommendation, although a little different than what you were looking into would be a 586 :D

Its a blued 686. Not sure if its on the CA DOJ's list. But, if the 686 is, y not the 586...

Hey, Skunky:

My S&W Chiefs Special was made in the late 1950's, before Model numbers were born; and it is beautiful blue, bluer than blue yet.
