I have been decried as a blue first ask questions later person.
That said,
What does the least amount of damage to do and yes undo?
Depending on surface damage, with proper technique you may be able to make it look new from the box.
WHICH despite all the coatings being used and pushed is where the resale value is in firearms.
Yes you can customize your firearm, but when it is time to sell it, is what you did for personal satisfaction, or value added?
I would say ask your friends, BUT it is the person with cash that may or will purchase a firearm or the person in the gunshop that buys many that determines, that if what you did helped or hurt the value. Buy that person a coffee and get them talking about what they look at to determine what they will pay for a used firearm, then decide what finish you want!
in general
The closer a firearm (your pistol) is to what it looked like as new in the box, the higher it's resale value should/will be!
