Bluing Stevens 22/410

I have a Stevens 22/410 I’m restoring; the case is colored using Stevens’s cyanide process I think. Can I blue it myself and if so what do I do. The case is very worn.

Blue it I doubt it, I blue commercially, the 22/410 action will turn purple.

Have it re-cased. Also the barrels are brazed together and the brass braze used will kill the salt tanks BTDT. rust blue is the method, it may also blue the action. I recommed http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=7780&title=BARREL+BROWN+&+DEGREASER

boil after every carding it will come out black

Case Coloring

I'd like to suggest you call a commercial case color guy: Ed Szfranski (608) 221 3008. He has no email I know of. I have a bluing business and use Ed for all my case coloring work. If you prepare the receiver to about 400 grit and have it ready to go, you'll find Ed's work is beautiful and reasonably priced. You could also have the receiver hot blued with Du-Lite 3-0 salts which will stay black and not turn reddish.
