Hello,
I recently picked up a blued revolver, S&W 17-2 and the bluing is in very good shape.

Any suggestions what I can do to ensure that the bluing stays nice? Is there a particular treated cloth or oil that you recommend?

Thanks for your help.

It might be worth your while to think about silicon-based preservatives in addition to regular gun oil. If you live in an area with high or varying humidity, it's definitely worth your while to inspect your firearms frequently.

You may also want to "wax" your weapon, with a waxing product from Flitz.
Be very careful if using the FLITZ metal polish. It took the bluing right off my 1939 Remington Targetmaster. I didn't know they made wax as well.

Thanks for replying.

Cleaning and oiling will most likely happen on a very regular basis since this revolver is fun to shoot. I'll look into the silicone based material.

How about any cases or wraps to put it in?

Thanks for your help.

A silicone gun and reel cloth is an excellent preservative. Wipe down the gun after use and keep the gun in a place where air circulates so it doesn't get condensation. You should get a long life out of that bluing. Good luck!

Never store it in a holster.I use those plastic file folder things that office max sells for about $5.00.They hold 7 handguns and each "lane" is about an inch wide.I also prefer nylon holsters when carrying.
