Stainless Or Blue, Which One for U?

I'm grappling with this same question. I just got my CHL, and I want to use an IWB holster with auto handguns. I don't like undershirts, so the slide of the gun will contact my skin. Will this take off the bluing? Am I ok if I wipe down & oil the exposed surface every night? Thanks.

I live in the south, and have no issues with rust and bluing. Even if I don't wipe the gun down every day. I've actually gone as long as a week without any issues.

That said, some people just have more caustic sweat than others, just as Nick points out.

I have two silver colored pistols, one hard chrome, one stainless. Hate them.
Can't sell them, because my partner likes them. Bleeeeccccch.
Make mine dark. Blue, parkerized, duracoat, whatever, just dark.

Stainless. My guns are tools that many times work in the rain all day. Sometimes I get home late and only have the time to wipe them down and take them outta the case to dry out. Then it's up again before daylight to go hunt in the rain again. There are times when I prefer to get some sleep to spending the night with oily rags. When I go to the range I take 6-8 guns with me to shoot. Since I may be shooting them again within the next day or two, I don't always take the time to wipe each one down and thoroughly remove all fingerprints and sweat residue. I ain't lazy, just I'd rather take that time to load more bullets.....with stainless guns you can get away with it. Ain't modern technology wonderful?

I prefer blue. All my handguns are blue except my S&W 625. As far as I know, that model was only made in stainless. I love the 625 but could love it a bit more if it were blued.

Stainless pistols

I love the deep almost gloss black look of the older model Smith’s and the Colt royal blue, sadly the factories don’t produce finishes like those anymore. No matter how well a firearm is made a stainless steel pistol, IMHO, has a very industrial look that does not inspire the pride of ownership that the deep bluing does. That being said all of my carry revolvers are and have been for years stainless.

As for the “monkeys and sandpaper finishes” an old T-shirt, a $5.00 can of Mothers aluminum and mag polish, and some elbow grease will clean up most of that.

I HATE bluing, hate it hate it hate it.

Don't like the way it looks, and really don't like how easy it is to mess up.

I prefer Blue and Wood but I recognize that thee are times when Stainless is better, My woods walking gun and my canoeing gun are both stainless, a S&W 65 and a S&W 60-4.

I use my revolvers and autos for more horseback protection carry for anything and its imperative that they are stainless steel

I'm partial to blue/black/Tenifer/Melonite etal purely from an aesthetic standpoint, I only have one stainless slide pistol. But...I have to agree with the guys who say stainless is more durable, it just doesn't seem to scratch or wear as easily as the blues. Just one more thing to be conflicted over.
