So....I'm thinking about going to Texas and thinning the boar population. Of course, being the natural adrenaline fulled idiot i am, my weapon of choice is the SPEAR. One without boar spontoons. Of course, i'll have a buddy there with me with a(n) M91/30....think it'll be a big enough round incase TSHTF?

I would rather be covered with something that can fire multiple shots quickly. A bolt gun just isn't going to cut it with a hog chasing you around. I have freinds that use knives and dogs but they are a little crazy.

Hmmm.... welll...I was thinking of buying a TT-33. Idk if thats a real boar stopper tho =P

Dogs chase hog to a corner. When hog is paying attention to a dog you stick it with the spear, or sit in a stand and wait till it goes under ya. Seen both ways done in person.

Kanook has it. Theres also an african way of taunting the boar until it rushes you, then you JUMP over it and stab downwards....however...im not that dumb.

Yep been there and seen that done, with a knife, while the dogs had him stretched out and pinned. The Op made no comment on using dogs in the original post. That's why I was currious. Most hog dog hunters around here won't let a client even carry a firearm in the presence of their dogs. The Rambo approach might work if you could get the hog to walk right under you. I can almost see my small town newspaper headline: "Out of State Hunter Admitted to Local Hospital" suffering hog bites about the legs and groin and a Spear wound. (ROFLMAO):D

The dogs hold the hog down and all you have to do is stick 'em in the throat and bleed 'em out. Most hog dog owners don't like firearms around their dogs. All we used was a sharp fillet knife, not very tacticool, but effective. I used to take a .45 just for in case. It's a popular sport in Texas.

Hell, Ben Lily used to hunt black bear with a knife! From what I read about it, the dogs would corner the bear, you'd slip off behind him and reach over him and stab him behind the off side shoulder. The bear would always react in the direction of the pain. Ben Lily died of old age. :D

Killed a couple with a knife before, and caught a few live (most were LT 200lbs) it is a pretty nice adrenalin rush to get a hold of a decent size hog and take him down with a knife. MC Gunner is right about the small hogs, but have seen a couple 300+ took with knives and helped live catch one that was that big too. (Not ferals, but Russian type). They are a handful.

I wouldn't mind hunting hogs, with a gun. I saw an ad on Craigslist from a woman in Texas. She had a couple thousand acres and a terrible ferral hog problem. You could hunt there for like $15 a day, no license reqiured. You could even camp on the property free or go to the next town and get a room for about $25. Dummy me lost the link somehow.

You get the boar real mad and when he charges you, you put the end of the spear in the ground and he is impaled on the point by his charge. By the way, you want a large hilt behind the spear point so he doesn't come sliding down on top of you. Then either he is dead OR you are. Not my cup of tea, thank you. :D

Ron's Guide Service is a "canned" hunt. You are driven to a fenced acreage, where one hog per customer has been released. You then "hunt" for a hog.

Good grief, with all the wild hogs in those swamps you wouldn't think they'd have to do that.

Hog hunting is Texas is getting quite expensive unless u have your own land .

There are a lot of options in Texas, But you DO have to have a valid hunting license to hunt hogs. Feral hogs are considered an "exotic", so they can be hunted all year with no bag limits, day or night....even with spotlights, night vision, fully automatic and/or supressed weapons.

There is one clause in the game reguations that is confusing to some. It says that a "landowner or his agent" doesn't have to have a license , to hunt hogs that are depredating.....so a lot of people "claim" to be the landowner's agent. This infraction might not be high on a Game Warden's list, but unless you have a written agent agreement, I think a license is the smarter (and cheaper) choice.
