Bobbed hammers?

I am looking at a model 37 with a bobbed hammer. It will be used as a backup gun in a bullet proof vest holster or ankle holster. I have never owned a revolver with a bobbed hammer - any disadvantages to having a bobbed hammer? Will it affect the reliability of the gun? Thanks

I've bobbed a couple guns in my life. I suggest if it hasn't already been done you have a smith remove the sibgle action notch on the hammer. Trying to cock, or worse uncock, a bobbed hammer is very risky. I think such a gun should be DA only.

Disadvantage is you lose SA capability. My favorite small revolver is the older Model 40 with no external hammer so I have no problem with this fact. May also have a hard time with holsters. Nothing for the strap to hold. I always carry my Centennials in my pocket with no holster so again no big deal to me. I know... pocket carry is bad but I've done it most of my life. Better try it in the holster you have in mind to see if it will work. Advantage is a more compact gun that won't snag nearly as easily or badly when drawn.

Small point to consider is hammer mass slightly reduced so - gotta be sure hammer spring still giving enough energy to hammer/pin for good strike.

Not usually a problem IMO - just a consideration.

This 28 has had hammer bobbed, plus a DA work-over and chamfered chambers too - larger than some may want to carry but - a superb piece for quite rapid fire usefully, even with full .357 loads.

Can get expensive tho!

I am a considerable fan of these - having also got them on a M629-6, SP-101, SIG's - 220 and 226 - and a set (used) is en route for me to fit to a new-to-me 228, which I traded a Para against!!! My 226 is usual everyday carry.

That's very sound advice. All my bobbed snubbies are D/A only. Trying to decock it could lead to a bullet hole in something that really shouldn't have one.
