Have him contact his local Safariland dealer. He may not like the price (or the weight or durability) but they do make a jacket slot holster for the 1911.

Left hand may be a special order item.

All are more or less the same, made of very flimsy plastic they are held together by what amounts to pop rivets both the holster itself and where the holster and paddle meet, that’s quality!

The Galco COP Series “seems†to be made “betterâ€, but I use that word loosely as they too are still just plastic.

You are comparing apples to oranges here. How much do you pay for a quality leather holster? $25, $60, or $115? Don't take nice leather rigs and start comparing them to a mass produced crapola plastic holster that costs $15 at the gunshow and comes with a free summer sausage! Also, don't play the silly "It's just plastic, it's not stronger than steel game," here. Some of us are too smart to fall for that one. ;)

There are plastics, metals, and fibers that are stronger than steel by weight. That means if I had a 1lb steel bar and 1lb Kevlar bar, the Kevlar would have a much, much higher strength (for the given test condition) but that does not mean they have the same size. Remember, 1lb of steel is much smaller than 1lb of aluminum! Plus, they won't even have the same material properties, which is often overlooked when criticizing plastics. A properly engineered device made of plastic can be as stong as the same device made in steel at a lighter weight or smaller structural size.

You compare a quality made Concealex holster to a nice Don Hume and then we can talk. I can get a custom made Concealex holster made to fit me, my gun, and my carry style for almost 1/2 the price of your top quality leather rig without the bulk and material issues of leather. Mine will never rot, doesn't mind the rain, doesn't bleed on clothes, doesn't get hot in the back, and makes a cool sound when you holster it

Next time you are in Texas, we'll go see my guy and get you setup with a real holster He's even got a nice "tac" version he made for a department with a retaining strap that you can kick off really easily. :)

Cheap plastic???

Lemme see now. Cheap plastic holsters?? I gets up in the morining by shutting off the alarm on my cheap plastic clock, Brush my teeth with a cheap plastic brush, Get in my car thats full of cheap plastic and go to the 711 and buy stuff with my cheap plastic debit card then on to work where I encounter every thing from the phone to the stapler made of Cheap plastic! C'mon! Wake up! Maybe the finish on your ole blue steel relic weapon is the cause. OMG! That can't be so they've made these thing for a hunert years! Well, welcome to the future. :cuss:

Weasel has a decent point here, that may have gotten lost along the way. He rpefers leather, and there is nothing wrong with that. If I read his postings correctly, he's required to use leather by the rules for his work. fair enough. Personally, I don't care for the Fobus stuff, because it just seems cheap. You get what you pay for, and for the most part we pay for what we like. I could be worse. It could be nylon cloth.

God Bless the folks that put themselves in harms way every day.

This does not make them experts on concealment gear, or denigrate their professionalism. To say that what a "cop" uses off duty is a selection criteria for concealment gear seems reasonable but upon further examination is not.

1st of all, concealment is not as big a priority for a LEO, field agent, etc... if they get made, big deal. Ask an undercover operative, and the selections start to change. Ditto for those who carry daily and can't afford to be made, tactically, socially, etc...

Pick a gun that you have had and will have for some time. Go to pistolsmith.com, 1911forums.com etc... and read the holster reviews. Buy a concealment holster from Allessi, Brommeland, Sparks, etc... . Then post a review.

I carry a glock 19 in a Brommeland IWB every day. It is comfortable, conceals extremely well under a polo shirt, not to mention a suit jacket. It is also 8 years old and works as well as the day I bought it. I think they are around 90 bucks, so it's a pretty small investment over time.
